Well sorry to hear but my experience is complete different !! 2023 Gladiator Rubicon 58,000 miles and still going strong !! Been so many places in this thing .. rocks, gravel, asphalt, mud, mountains, deserts, forest, water crossings, Arctic Ocean !! My Gladiator is a beast of an overland vehicle !
Yes that is a drawback but they are very very simple to remove and reinstall if you have a place to store them while in a “big city” environment! I have removed mine and stored inside Jeep (Rotopax are very sealed and no gas smell is released) while staying at a motel or shopping parking lot...
I mount mine on the side panel but suction cups don’t care side or top ! You just need a flat surface . I’ve even mounted them on my rear doors once !
They are easily removed but are very secure once suction is made!
I’ve use the SeaSucker suction cup Rotopax mounts (3 gal Rotopax) on my SmartCap !
I’ve gone probably 30,00O miles with them on while overlanding and never a failure!
The only negative issue is security but I’ve never had any stolen in all my travels!
White Rim Trail …

2) Is dispersed camping allowed or is camping only at designated camp site where permits/reservation are required?
I have have the rockslide Enginnering sliders with the secondary guard plate for two years .. 50,000 miles! Mud, rocks, sand, etc ( standard off-roading/overlanding stuff).
they’ve performed great .. no problems!
I like my setup and I’m about 30, 000 miles of overlanding in the west/canada/alaska ! I do not pull a trailer but I’m sure I could.
3-1/2 inch lift Clayton overland with HD rear springs, 37” tires, with a SmartCap loaded with frig/drawers/aux battery/rooftop tent/etc.
I’m not a rock crawler but...
Well .. I’m on Day 4 and made it to outside Deadwood, SD!
Unfortunately I have fought a lot of rain thus far but making planned progress.
I really liked Custer State Park in SD. Lots of Bison and dogs .. as in Prarie! In person .. Mount Rushmore is so very majestic ! Currently dispersed camping...

You can get to the NWT border in a few hrs, well worth the side trip, the road is in pretty good condition mostly. Johnsons Crossing general store has good homemade baking treats if...
