Yes, my '99 TJ with the 4.0 has never given me any problems at all, burns no oil, is a beast (135k miles). Maybe I can switch that engine to my JTR when the time comes and I hear the tick-tick melody under the hood. But who knows.
With all the auto companies that Stellantis owns, I don't understand why "someone" out there doesn't have a powerful 4 or 6 cylinder turbo that "might" make some of us happy. They did it with the Italian 3.0 diesel, and who knows what else is available for an off the shelf engine.
Now that I...
Yes, others that have been going to the event in the past also mention about how is has really become more commercialized than before. I guess it's like everything else, when something gets popular it becomes a money-making opportunity for many around it.
It was also mentioned during the...
I must say, had a wonderful time there in Daytona Beach last week (arrived Thurday and left Sunday 26 Apr 2026). I just wish we had gone a day or two earlier.
It's an absolutely great time and the obstacle course was fun. There was an off-site obstacle course (Cracker Ranch) that everyone raved...
Forgot to mention, I was surprised by how many Apex 12000 winches i saw in the vendor area on Jeeps that were all modded up (is that a word?) . Some of these are worth well over $100k or more and yet on the front were the Apex winches. Of course there were a large number of Warns also, but...
Great pic. We arrived last evening (Thursday) and went over to the speedway around 10AM. We walked and walked through the vendor exhibits until we were hot and worn out by about 1PM and still only saw half of the place. We are going back in the morning early when it opens at 9AM before it gets...
The Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires 265/70 17's on the Willys JKU come out to just over 31.5 inches so yes, those should be OK. Sorry for being so anal about this, but this is the first one of these events I have been to. Thanks again.
I agree to a point. When you mention "but in the end, fix it myself" sounds good but unfortunately vehicles today, at least for driveway mechanics, are barely fixable. I guess Jeep has to follow suit with other manufacturers but with all of the electronics and limited access to many areas...
After seeing and reading all the stuff here about some of the Jeeps that have been really upgraded, I guess I will sit in the corner a lot since my '16 Willys JKU and '24 Gladiator Rubicon have not really been upgraded that much. I was leaning towards bringing the Willys JKU but maybe the JT...
I can't answer your question directly but for what it's worth, there must have been some update as you mention, since my system suddenly changed in some odd ways. I was getting a message that there was an unknown Android device (yes, I have an Android phone) and that still worked as usual. Then...
May I ask why you would leave a firearm in a vehicle? Maybe it's just me, and I do carry my brothers with me at times (S&W), but never leave them in a vehicle. Am I overly cautious or something?
Not sure where you live, but if you think someone may steal the whole Jeep, then I would get the engine immobilizer thing(s) others mention here. I have never used one but I guess they work.
Otherwise, as I do with my last three soft top/half door Jeeps ('94, '99, '16), I NEVER lock them. I did...
Well, we are leaving Key Largo after lunch on Thursday (yea, about a 5 1/2 hour drive without traffic) so we should be in Daytona by 6PM, hoping to see any events or I am sure there are sufficient watering holes to prepare for Friday and Saturday.
Still not sure which Jeep I am driving. In my...
Thank you sooo much. I guess I will take the Willys JKU instead of the Rubi Gladiator. I'll watch others first before doing anything to beat it up too much (I have a 350 mile drive home to the Keys). Since I don't have the stock rock rails but stitched them to the Sahara steps to make it easier...
Thanks for the recommendations.
You did mention "watching underbuilt Jeeps try to tackle the hard lane" in prior years. Does that, in your opinion, exclude a basically stock Willys JKU (they have the Rubicon suspension and tires) that has not been lifted any further?
Just curious.
My 1st time. We are in Florida also but about 6 hours from Daytona Beach down in Key Largo. We will be there Thur 23 April 2026 through Sun 26 April 2026.
My question, would it be better to take my '16 JKU Willys (soft top, half doors) or would a stock '24 Rubicon Gladiator be a better ride...
For what it's worth, I see the $479 sale on the HF Apex 12000 winch is now extended to Sunday 19 April 2026 for anyone (you just need the coupon from the HF website).
Nothing more.
I see you have the "Enhanced Navigation Package" also.
I just find it interesting when the Standard Navigation and Enhanced Navigation conflict on directions and I end up taking my own routes. At least I can turn the Standard Navigation off when not needed.
