They are a cheap Chinese version on Amazon, called Dr. Car, I only have 4 lights. They look decently made as far as waterproofing and such, but all the wires go into a Blackbox with the bluetooth controller, so I have no clue how they are wired. There also isn't much information on Amazon, nor...
Thanks for all this information. It might be a bit much for me at the moment, but I'll keep reading and learning.
I found a solid state relay last night that I was going to look into, to see if it will trigger at 6v, but not fry on seeing the 12v.
I'm tapped right off the led footwell light, where I only have 2 wires, well 3 if you count the black, which I'm pretty sure is ground. So it's either yellow with purple or white with brown to choose from. I can't wrangle myself into the hole with the door closed to test without exposing some...
I found the bosch 5 pin relays, but thought this 4 pin with integral fuse might be worth waiting for, then I have less to deal with. https://a.co/d/3HkAHj0
Ok, I'm going to take this back up in the morning. Thank you all, who have commented so far. Maybe I'll understand my truck better if I...
My brain light is flickering with this information, but not quite on. Can I use 4 pin relay, or a 5 pin and not use 87a? I think I'm starting to understand.
No relay between courtesy light and diode. I'm not a wiring aficionado, as this is my first time wiring anything. But isn't a relay just a switch? I don't see why you need one, if the courtesy lights are on, then I want the lights on, if they are off, I want them off.
Like I said I don't...
I get 6v, whether the rock lights are tapped or not, so I'm thinking this isn't the case. I literally unplugged everything, the posi-tap and footwell led and tested the circuit and only got 6v before opening the door.
If I buy a step up converter to get the 6v to 12v before the door opens. Will it fry the converter when it sees the 12v once I open the door?
Looking at this one, says 5v-11v input, https://a.co/d/gk6EnCD
I had it unplugged from the light when I measured. I didn't measure the white with brown because I was running out of daylight (had to work late today). They are mighty small wires to check when all the doors are closed and your body is sprawled across the front seat trying to hit the unlock...
I checked the yellow with purple stripe and it's 6v at unlock before opening the doors and 12v once you open the doors. I didn't trace it upstream since that verified what I was seeing yesterday. I'll think about the relay idea, but was hoping I already had the solution.
Tomorrow I'll stick my head down there and get a voltage reading from the yellow (and I think purple) wire when unlocked versus when the door is opened to see if I get the same reading.
Maybe I'll try tapping the wite/brown wire too and see what that does.
The yellow one, it has a stripe, but I can't see that small, there is also a white one, but I thought that was the always on when running (controlled by the knob up by the steering wheel).
I wanted them to illuminate during unlock, but also turn on via aux switch. I just don't know why they blink when first unlocked before the door is opened. For what it's worth they blink once when the door is locked, so maybe it's a dimmer thing? I have the led package, so all my lights...
Sorry, I measured it before the diode, not after the diode. The only thing i didn't measure cuz its hard to get your paws in there is at the courtesy light when unlocked, without the door opened. I only have like 3ft of 18g wire from the courtesy light to the diode.
I can maybe try and do...
I'm using a roadmaster hy-powered diode, below. If i wired the courtesy in, and my aux switch out, wouldn't I have to have the aux switch always on?
It works as intended only except when unlocked via fob or door handle before the door is opened.
The lights were on when I measured the...
I got some led rock lights for Xmas. Ran them to an aux switch and tapped into the courtesy light via drivers footwear.
I hooked the yellow wire via a posi tap to a dual in diode and a positive from my aux switch to the diode.
I wired up the out of the diode to the rock lights, grounded to a...
