The step up converter worked, but I think I fried it. So I guess it doesn't work now.
Has anyone confirmed the bed lights give off 12v?
**edit** they seem to work just fine now, but you can't lock/unlock a bunch of times in a row.
Finally had an hour on a dry day to see if the relay would work. It didn't. It chatters when I hit unlock, so the 6v isn't enough to keep the switch on. I was going to just give up, but just hit buy on a step up converter. So I'll let you know if that works.
I appreciate your post. I can read the manual as best as the next person, but wanted to hear someone say this dealership is bs. I have reached out to a couple of shops to see what kind of quotes I get for some of the list. Like I said I've done some of the work myself on my vehicles, oil...
I go to the dealer to get my oil changes and tire rotations included in the jeep wave program. I've already changed my air cabin filter once (I work in a dirty environment). I'll be coming up on year 3 of ownership, so I drive more than 12k a year, but not crazy. I don't go offloading, but...
Do I need all this at 30k, I'm assuming the fuel system stuff I can't do myself. Filters I have covered. I can't believe the brake fluid need replacing. And is the 4×4 just service, just draining and replacing diff oil?
So I used a 50lb load in the center of the bed, neglected the weight of the aluminum and the 1010 is totally fine. I then worked backwards to find the maximum point load, or load per foot. Turns out this would be about 190lbs in the center or about 76lbs/ft.
Now that is assuming just one...
For 50 lbs, even if it was dead center, you could probably use the 1010, but I would go with the 1020, with the 2" in the vertical direction for greater strength. You wouldn't have to worry about overloading it. I can show you the math if you want.
I want to thank everyone for their responses. I'm waiting on a relay to arrive that claims to work down as low as 6v. If that works, problem solved, if not I might just jump ship on the idea as I've already spent enough time and money on the situation.
I chose the footwell rather than the...
Here are two pictures of the wires I've been talking about. There are 3 wires on the plug to the led footwell light. I haven't touched the mess of wires to the left.
I tapped the yellow with purple, took off the tapp to check the voltage.
I will look at the passenger side to see what it's over there. I just had all the wiring coming in the driver's side, so I thought that might easier. I'm not sure the diode is the problem, but I didn't take that out of the equation, so I can't say for sure.
