First camping trip was a great time! And not having to spend hours on setup and pack-up plus the ability to quickly change campsite locations was fantastic.
Having the camper is an absolute game changer!
The main island “road” is over 20 miles long!
Great views from the southern tip of the...
One last thing to add before the trip…bathroom facilities.
We like to camp at a particular beach and it’s a 3+ mile drive to a toilet and a 25+ mile drive to the public showers.
Problem is there’s almost no privacy on the beach except maybe inside the dunes and that’s where the biting...
At this point a camping trip to the beach was in order.
And knowing I’d need to carry a few extra items, the receiver hitch carrier was making the trip.
But once at the campsite the hitch carrier would be useless, so I decided to make it dual purpose to also function as a table / platform...
For the suspension, I first added up all of the weight of the topper and the options that came with it. The math quickly reached 750 pounds before I added people or gear to the truck! Geez.
My first task was to find a suspension that was rated for a constant 800+ pounds of cargo weight as I’m...
With all the weight added to the truck, the stock Rubicon suspension simply could not carry it.
First item on the list was a new rear swaybar. Went with a Hellwig adjustable rear sway bar as that seems to address most of the side to side rocking and leaning caused by the weight of the camper...
After cleaning out all the dust on the inside of the camper that the prior owner had collected and my own driving around without any tailgate seal (which let water seep in around the tailgate), I knew I needed to do something to seal up the camper. Down here in the south getting moisture inside...
Realizing that the standard lighting that came with the topper on the interior was insufficient at night, I’ve added a row of LED strip lighting to both the upper and lower levels and just plugged it into the ATO topper’s cigarette lighter power supply for now.
Plenty bright now inside without...
Ended up doing quite a few things to the interior of the AT Overland topper…
First project was to create a Lower Level Sleeping and Seating Platform.
By bridging the gap between the driver and passenger side cabinets (in the alley at the center of the bed) with flat panels installed even with...
Ended up adding a few more 7” lights up top with a KC Light Bar bolted to the AT Overland brackets.
Now I have an enormous amount of light at night. But a ton of wind noise starting at 45 mph. Not sure if I’m going to be able to handle the amount of wind noise this created.
To be...
In case anyone is looking for one of these AEV bumpers here’s one a dismantling yard is asking $850. I’d offer less as it needs a little bit of refinishing. Set of parts looks complete.
AEV JK Call of Duty bumper on eBay
@Montana Brian if you have the AEV parts in the exploded diagram, I don’t think you need the 392 winch plate as it would be duplicative with the AEV parts…but if the 392 plate is in fact an AEV part you may have the same winch plate as @Johnny3.
And I don’t think you’ll be able to space UP the...
No problem @Montana Brian. This has turned into a bit of a quest for me…lol.
A non-AEV winch plate likely works but you’re almost certainly in for some fabrication to get it all to play together.
Do you not have the parts labeled “fairlead bracket” and “winch plate” (in the exploded pic view)...
Oh, @Johnny3 the AEV JL/JT RX/EX bumper front skid plate…can you show some up close photos of it?
Especially the front top leading edge of the skidplate where it meets the underside of the AEV bumper.
My guess is it just mounts to the vertical JT frame horn extensions like the OEM Rubicon...
@Johnny3 really, really nice job on the JK bumper and winch install!
I’m finally getting around to installing a winch @Montana Brian!
So, I went with the Warn VR Evo 12-S winch. Certainly not the cheapest option, but I felt for a name brand winch, 12,000 lb (actual) rated capacity, synthetic...
If you are really looking for an incredible amount of lighting while offroad AND a ton of wind noise, I would suggest this setup:
We have a large amount of deer in our area on backroads at night (several close calls…not uncommon to come home and see 9 - 12 deer in the front yard). Combine...
@mpboxer thanks! More and more I’m thinking my noise is coming from the coils, but it will be another week before everything on the suspension gets re-torqued to confirm first it’s not a bolt. The clattering is driving me crazy!
So, I have an AEV Dualsport 5100 suspension with High Capacity coil springs to carry an AT Overland Topper.
Whether empty with topper only or fully loaded with cabinets, refrigerator, and gear I get this same annoying rattle at low speeds on the road and any speed offroad.
Is this the same...
So, are these JT or JK spec AEV Saltas on the Gladiator?
Running no spacers?
OEM spec Mojave suspension?
Just trying to confirm what I’m seeing and determine if 37s on JK spec AEV wheels will work on my (lifted) Gladiator Rubicon.
Not a fan of wheels and tires that stick out past the fenders.
Well done. And classy. Quite a few Easter Eggs in both the script and imagery. An overall good combination of messages - patriotism, wisdom, and selling the vehicles. With a bit of humor thrown in too.
As a marketer by profession, I was impressed - nice job Jeep. And the fact that Jeep...
