Well, it sure seemed like it was going to be easy-peasy after all the prep I'd done. But I should know better by now. Any time I undertake a vehicle project it seldom goes as I envisioned. :)
I did take my time and pause on occasion then dealing with a part that wasn't going "to plan."...
Holy F%$&K. I consider myself fairly handy and have all the proper tools but this was a classic case of “YouTube vs Reality.” I read this entire thread, watched all the videos, had all the tools, and still found this to be a complete PITA just to do the driver side and managed to bust a bit...
Hey @SmartCap -- I see you are telling some folks here that a late December 2021 order will get them a cap in April of 2022. That's neat. Only 4-months! How about those of us that ordered from resellers found on your website as official resellers (turns out supplied by Keystone Automotive and...
Accuracy of weight for any of these caps are often a little, erm, ballpark-ish. :)
The number you will see most often quoted is 57-kg (~126-lbs). You can find this "hidden" in different regional Alu-cab sites, sometime in page (UK site) or in PDFs (uncertain regional site, but included...
Hey Chris (@The White Rabbit), did you have a chance to measure the free length on those Mojave rear springs? I could definitely use that info as well as I continue the "support weight w/o a lift" quest. :)
Much appreciated. Thanks!
I'm still waiting on the RSI. I spoke with the folks I ordered from again and was able to learn that they aren't dealing with RSI directly, rather Keystone Automotive who is a RSI distributer. The shop isn't getting good info from Keystone and they now have close to 10 caps they are waiting...
@smlobx, love the build, trip photos and all the info you contribute to the forum. Can you share what mounts you used to mount the All-cab crossbars to the cap to provide enough clearance over the cab for your tent? I'm picking up a tent for mine this weekend and am not certain if I can use...
Seeing all the RSI caps that various larger vendors have had available over the past 6-months really has me curious about RSI distribution and prioritization in the US.
I placed an order for an EVO Sport from a small, local shop who is an official reseller. Ordered in late July 2021...
Yay! Not an exciting action picture, but simply having the cap is an accomplishment. I'm still waiting (6+ months and counting) for the RSI I ordered in July. Very impressed with this Alu-Cab and wish I'd started with one of these given wait-times, weight, and massive side doors for easy access.
@LCF -- Whoops, my bad! I completely missed that! Thanks for pointing that out. I updated my earlier post with the correction in case folks don't follow the entire thread.
@Challenger85 beat me to it! :) However, hopefully the links will come through for others that are interested.
Updated after being skool'd by @LCF later in thread. ;)
The instructions (https://www.aev-conversions.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/AEV30398Af-Spacer_JT_noSnap.pdf) from the AEV...
Awesome, thanks! Doesn't look like the image came across?
As for the fronts, was it Dobinson that offered to cut some to size based on your load and photos or King Chariot?
I'd come across Dobinson when looking for options for my previous WK2. The Australian market was sooo much bigger for...
@Padre -- Did you mean Dobinson springs? I'm also very interested in hearing feedback on how the springs are affecting the ride as I have no interest in lifting the Mojave but do want to handle similar setup with additional consistent load (canopy, rat, awning). Do you know which rear springs...
The mini is on my short-list as well and after the SEMA tease of the updated versions, I've been taking a wait-and-see toward the updated ones. While no specific release dates are available, iKamper has made general availability and pricing available on their website. I'm liking the changes...
My experience may not be the norm and I will admit to being frustrated. However…
I went through a similar quandary last year on which of the canopies to order. Like you, RSI and Alu-cab were the top two. As my local shop is a RSI reseller and I was told I would have it in the next inbound...
Crap! Sadly I, too, have joined the folks struggling the center console USB and CarPlay. Picked up my Gladiator in April of last year and have been successfully using the center console USB connection until yesterday. I ”upgraded” from my old iPhone XS running iOS 15.3 which had been working...
Thanks, Jack. I posted here and send email to the US regional sales manager shortly thereafter as I found his email address from previous contact. He replied, "211 pounds" but in reviewing the website, I think he must have been looking at the EVOa Adventure rather than the EVO Sport as it...
@RSI North America Inc --
I was back at the RSI website and now see that the approximate assembled weights for these caps (20-21 Gladiator EV0600-MB) have jumped to a listed 198.5-lbs! Have there been significant changes made to the caps that increased the weight or simply more conversion...
Love the info here! Thanks, everyone.
I've an SmartCap EVO order in at my local shop but note that many of you have stated the weight of the cap is ca. 169-170-lbs assembled. RSI is listing the Gladiator version as Packaged - 155.5-lbs, Assembled - 115.5-lbs. 50+ lbs is a massive...
