I have one from Reynolds, et al. v. FCA US LLC. It is not a solicitation to do one, it is a proposed settlement on an existing one. The proposal is that FCA will extend the warranty to 8 years or 90k miles "to replace a failed suspension steering damper."
So, assuming this settlement is...
I'm a service interval guy, which is to say, I tell the dealer/shop to do the recommended service at each mileage interval. Most dealerships (independent shops vary) just pull up the service manual. I actually challenged a tech once because I thought what he pulled up was BS... until I opened...
Definitely sounds different. I think it sounds similar to a side by side/razer tbh. I drove with a guy who has a tundra who said "woh it even sounds like a side by side!" when we had it in low.
(Specifically the Rubicon with low case.)
Passenger failed around 18k. Fixed it. Meant to fix the driver side preemptively but forgot, and it broke at 20k. Now I can't find the dang second clip...
Keep in mind that not all dealers keep one on hand. I was explicit when making my appointment that I wanted the TSB steering box and confirmed they had them before I went in, so I wouldn't have to go twice.
Of course there is variation, which I pointed out. But it is also easy to find out who is on average the cheapest:

I've looked at this, and their wider counterpart. IIRC, these are load rate E right? Have you aired them down to see how they flex in comparison to a C?
These are actually what I want next but the E scares me off a bit.
Geico is consistently the lowest cost of major providers, so I doubt you'll have much luck shopping around. FWIW we pay about 1,000 for a Jeep and a VW Golf. So two Jeeps at 1000 seems about right or even cheap (of course, location playing a huge role).
Oddly, our 2017 Golf with 80k miles on...
I'm not a club-level wheeler, but even I have cause to use the rear locker. I'd say I flip it on... 2x a year? Certainly not a lot. Front locker? I turned it on in snow for fun but I've never really needed it.
Now, the lower gearing? Yes. That's what the Rubicon is about, not the front locker...
Looks cool!
Since this is your thread, I'm not going to name the big competitor, but do you have any words on how this is better than the existing competition? Like if someone were looking to have a ... hatch/table? In the... mountains?
I will definitely post what they do. But hopefully we get a copy of the TSB which should make it clear. I know when I got the steering box fix it was very clear from online TSB forms what was going to happen.
I appreciate all the hate but as a 2020 owner with 21k miles, yes please. I’ll be getting whatever this fix is next oil change….
As someone else requested, @JeepCares can you provide a link to the tsb? Googling isn’t helping on this one.
+1 for great video.
Two comments:
* The steering play they show on the JL would drive me nuts too. With the replacement steel steering box, I don't have play like that at all, however, in the JT.
* Washboard is definitely an issue in the JTR. I find it remarkably bad, actually, and have to go...
Thanks! I'm on the stock Rubicon 33s but planning to go with a 2" lift and 35s when I replace them (likely next summer). I like the look of metal inner fenders but never really understood the rationale.
I'm not exactly a newb but let's just assume I am for the sake of this thread...
What do these do for you? Ie, what is the point?
(Hopefully this fits with the thread and isn't a hi-jack, please answer OP.)
Very strange, particularly as you're in SD.
Not particularly helpful info to you, but mine is 2 years old in Colorado and the only signs of wear are dust.
