  1. Bison vs Raptor vs TRD vs Mojave

On what planet does the gladiator not have better visibility across the board? Seriously, the tacoma has atrocious sight lines.
  2. Rear Ended

The damage mismatch in nearly every "I got hit" post amazes me. Of course appearances may under represent the actual severity of damage if the frame is bent or axle cracked, but still. I reckon it's a combination of the weight and frame height over the road. The gladiator seems to be a...
  3. Cool Daily Random JT Gladiator Pics -- Post Em! 📸

Doing my part to promote the agricultural utility of the Gladiator. Now how many of you have taken a sheep in a jeep on a boat? On this day we drove out to the San Juans to drop off a lamb and pickup a ram. The ferry crew had never seen a sheep on board before.
  4. The diesel is just superior…

Heated wheel and seats are a luxury I appreicate on a wet PNW day. I score a lot of husband points when I put on the front passenger seat warmer before my wife gets in.
  5. What can you do with the Mojave?

The T-case ratio is still better than the new tacomas, so it's all relative. Last time I used low range was to drag a sevral thousand pound, 5x10 sheep shed built on log skids out of my forest and across the barn yard. I expect the somewhat higher t-case ratio in the Mojave would have been...
  6. Off Road Plus Noisy

HDC/Selecspeed or any of the other brand's permutations of the same concept usually come with a variety of grinding type noises. I've heard the system on 4th gen toyotas tended to be quite pronounced. Nothing wrong however, the manual (your friend) describes the system and notes the noises...
  7. Rock Rails / Rubi Rails Weight

IME the rubi-rails are useful for mitigating damage due the relatively long wheel base. We have some protection by virtue of the tire sidewalls being the widest point of the vehicle below the mirrors and a good turning radius. But if you end up cutting it too close the rails take the hit...
  8. Stellantis sells VM Motori...

I've thought that 2.8 would be an ideal gladiator engine for a while. It doesn't need sky high power numbers, there's sufficient torque to do what we need and range should in theory be fantastic. The clatter of a four pot diesel would be sublime.
  9. IFS coming in 2029?

And then there is a solid contingent of enthusiasts who chose the gladiator in whole or in part due to the SFA. I confounds me a bit the dreams of dessert running. I mean really, how many of us live local to some terrain where high speed driving of that sort is possible? I'd venture it's...
  10. Rubicon steel bumper ‘winch ready”?

It's "ready" in that the bumper is compatible with a winch and your install will be much easier. I installed the plate and winch by myself in a field with some simple hand tools. My research led me to the Warn winch plate which worked well with the Smitty built winch I installed.
  11. Gladiator driving characteristics? Bobblehead?

They also wore out quite quickly. By 35k my stock Rubicon shocks and springs were bouncy bouncy to the point I realized I had to replace them. Falcon 2.2 shocks set soft and Clayton triple rate HD springs had her riding better than the day I drove off the lot. I can't imagine why Jeep didn't...
  12. Ouch

Black tails out here do run small, the Elk make up for it.
  13. Improving Ride Quality

On stock tires my suspension was worn out at 35k miles. Clayton ride right with triple rate springs and falcon shocks made a huge difference. The new setup seems much more appropriate for the truck than the oem foxes.
  14. Ouch

Gladiator doesn’t score top marks for crash testing but that said quite a few members have been much more fortunate than those who hit them. Given the hit you took I’m impressed that the tailgate appears to still operate normally. There appears to be an advantage (depending where you sit) to...
  15. 3.6 Reliability Issues Resolved ?

They’re good off-road if you have a shit ton of room. The width is a major issue. We had a stellar off-road course in Germany with a rock garden and a water crossing that we regularly drove during PMT. They are miserable on the road, loud, poor handling, shit brakes.
  16. The 1st Rubicon window sticker 2003

Man, 4.0 and all. The only bummer is the automatic. It's amazing how much of the equipment is the same.
  17. Oil analysis after Towing 20K miles

How were your oil temps other than the steep grades? High temperatures significantly impact oil life but fortunately I’ve observed the gladiator cooling system does a great job. The only time I’ve ever hit 230 on the oil gauge has been very short stints into headwinds towing or at the top of...
  18. Dumb shock question of the day.

Man, my shocks were dead at 35,000 miles. When I pulled them I found I could easily compress them by hand, theyn weren’t doing much anymore. New set of falcons and triple rate HD springs and it rides better than new. I won’t wait so long next time. I can’t believe you got over 100k!
  19. Beware 3.6 Penstar

I think overall the 3.6 is one of the more reliable midsize pickup engines on the market now. PFI, naturally aspirated, relatively low complexity and vast parts and pulled engine availability. Many other makers have jumped on the downsizing wagon but I don’t think highly stressed turbos are...
