I hit some off-road parks a couple times of year, so the only problem I have with any wheel is rock rash! At least machined wheels don't show rock rash quite as blatantly as painted or powder-coated wheels.
Obviously, I should have. Then again, I'm picky about where I engage 4WD; I tend to follow the "no 4WD on on paved roads" thing unless they're snow covered!
Had it back there yesterday, they claim the computer says I shifted into 4L at 5.6 mph, hence the problems. They said come to a full stop, put the trans in neutral, then shift to 4L (even though the manual states coasting in neutral at 1-3 mph). Fine, took it home. Today at the local dump I...
That's pretty much how I figure it. They said they fixed it. I feel that they probably cleared the codes, replaced some parts, and then didn't get codes. But let's face it, unless they test drove it in 4L for a few hundred yards, then they have no clue if it was really fixed!
Scratches on the bolts line up, some of the allen screws are still packed with dried mud, I really think they didn't do what they claimed. Spoke with the service manager today, I'll drive up there in a couple of weeks. Of course, now that it has 38K on it, electrical problems (like the sensors...
I finally got the chance to go off-roading since the dealer fixed it. Well, nothing changed, I still get the service 4WD light, still indicates 4L and 2H when I shift back, etc. So I crawled underneath to look at things, and what do I find? Now, if you'll remember, I was to billed shop rate...
I'm running 285/70 18 (34") Ridge Grapplers on 18 x 8" +30 wheels with 4.56 gears. Highway mileage is generally 18-19, town 15-16 mpg. Automatic trans, cruises at 65 at about 2000 rpm in 8th gear.
Everyone says 35s (or 37s!) are the way to go, but I see nothing wrong with something slightly smaller. I went with the 285/70R18 Ridge Grappler. It specs out at 33.98" as compared to the 34.76" diameter of a 35", which means I give up about 3/8" of ground clearance! Looking closer at the...
Got it back today, but it'll be a few days before I get a chance to take it into the woods. They installed a "switch: transfer case" (5083138AA), then a "module: transfer case" (68483375AC). A trim piece was also replaced due to damage. As expected, I did have to pay the shop rate for them to...
Brought it in 7am yesterday, called them at 4pm to check the status. They had to order some (more) parts, maybe late next week. So now I'm driving a brand new Grand Cherokee 4xe that had 36 miles on it when I left with it!
Like I said, "Then there's the possibility that it turns out that's...
I always go to neutral. Dealer had it today, they traced the fault to the transfer case actuator. It's on order, I go back later in the month. While it is under warranty, I'll have to pay labor for the time it takes to remove/reinstall skid plates.
When shifting back to 2H, the transfer case lever is put in 2H position, I get indicator lights for 4L and 2H and the vehicle acts as if it's still in 4L (same gearing, front diff engaged) until vehicle is shut off and restarted.
Transfer case lever is at
Transmission (automatic) is in neutral.
