Yep understood that it's not great on the transfer case unless something is slipping. Crow-hop on this is a different beast though, I can be turning sharp out of my snowy driveway (4wd required) onto my snowy street and still generate enough traction in snow on a front tire to get crow hop with...
I'll try zombie revival of this thread to ask, has anyone on this forum actually swapped stock CV axles in on a U-joint rig?
Selec-Trac or CVs were never an option on my diesel, but I moved to a very snowy place this year that has a mosiac of cleared and uncleared roads and I probably shift in...
Thanks for that reassurance! A 90s Ford 7.3 IDI diesel pulled up to the other side of the diesel pump I was at this week and reminded me how just how loud injector pop can get.
Better fuel economy is good but a louder EcoD is not something I'm excited about. Personally I'm not a fan of the sound, compared to other modern diesels it's not particularly sonorous; because I find the timbre kind of harsh I'd prefer it just be quiet. ?‍♂️
I'm sorry but have you seen a single Rivian off-road review? With 4 individually-controlled motors and fantastic articulation afforded by moving the control arm mounting points far inboard of a normal truck/SUV it is considered exceptionally capable by many reviewers.
Given this saga I'm not sure if going from No Service on your syncro to Stellantis Service on the Gladiator was actually an upgrade. At least you have a reliable transmission now though!
Did you all miss the part where the individual from Germany said that all diesel Gladiators sold in Europe have Selec-Trac from the factory? This debate about how much torque the transfer case could theoretically hold is pointless when the factory installs and warranties that exact configuration...
I'm willing to bet your wiring is getting too hot and chafing near the exhaust. Causes all kinds of symptoms like this, and there is a TSB for dealerships to fix it.
There's nothing as depraved as a diesel on an ether binge.
But to add to the above, ether can bend your connecting rods if it pre-ignites, which it is prone to do.
Thanks folks! I'll try another bottle then when this one runs out. Sadly with 2 kids still in carseats all the storage in the rear seat area is a no-go for me, but I will find a way to keep it upright....maybe a custom Hotshot holster on the side of the bed?
So I've been using Hotshots and the bottle is just disgusting. It leaks profusely and the product reeks to high hell (but I think they probably all do) and that smell can go right through a freezer ziploc and will permeate everything in an enclosed space. Nearly ruined a storage tote, has to...
I know I'm in the minority on a site like this but I don't want my truck any higher than it already is. I'll check out those Falcon bump stops though, thanks for the tip.
Another non-Rubicon diesel here that couldn't benefit from the TSB but definitely bottoms out. For $220 shipped and a couple hours of garage time the Clayton 0.5" lift springs are absolutely the cheapest and quickest solution. I put mine on this Saturday and hit the trail on Sunday. I can still...
My government-operated utility provides me power at a flat 2.8¢/kwh 24/7 with no brownouts ever, and a set rate that is not subject to the whim of fickle markets or Blue Northers. It's why I also have a BEV in the driveway.
The diesel nozzles that are the wrong size are intended for much larger trucks, and as such are usually found where semi-trucks fill up. The nozzle and the hose attached to it are visibly huge, but the nozzle has always just barely fit in older diesel pickup filler necks and still works. The...
Nice to hear a Jeep mechanic essentially confirming what I presumed the noise was in my OP last July.
I maintain that this is the loudest 3.0 liter 6cyl diesel currently sold and it is louder in the gladiator/wrangler application than in the Ram. It's a great engine in many ways, but decibel...
I think of whistling and tappet noises as very different...by tappet do you mean lifter tick? The injector pop I described last July sounds similar to lifter tick. Post a video if you're concerned about it though.
FWIW, mine did quiet down a bit more after maybe 10k miles. It's still the...
