So I've been using Hotshots and the bottle is just disgusting. It leaks profusely and the product reeks to high hell (but I think they probably all do) and that smell can go right through a freezer ziploc and will permeate everything in an enclosed space. Nearly ruined a storage tote, has to stay in the bed, won't stay upright due to the narrow design, and then requires nitrile gloves to apply due to said leaking. It absorbs readily into skin and requires a thorough handwash to get rid of the stink, let alone the chemicals.
I like it's beneficial effects but I strongly dislike dealing with it and it is unreasonable to expect my wife or anyone else to go through what is basically a hazardous substance handling drill just to fuel up the truck. Now that I've used many words to say "it sucks", my questions are:

Do other people's Hotshot EDT bottles leak at the cap after first opening, or did I just get unlucky?
Are there other additives out there that people also like that reseal completely?
Is there really any performance/chemical difference between additive brands or is any one as good as the rest?

You got unlucky. Mine stands upright in the cubby behind the driver's side rear seat with a small towel wrapped around it. I keep funnel in ziplock wrapped in paper towel under seat. No smell in the truck.

I don't trust any bottle of petroleum based anything to sit on its side, that stuff just seeps and creeps everywhere. I've been shoving mine right here and it seems to stay in place, and even so you can see it starting to collect on the top of the bottle. I keep the funnel in a zip bag in the door.

Eventually I'd like to build a little holder for them for under the seat that will keep them in place and catch any spills. Something I can pop out to wash once in a while. Maybe store some shop towels since the diesel dispensers are always filthy and the towels at the pump are often empty.

I keep my bottle of Hot Shots in the rear door netting. Never had an issue with it.

Thanks folks! I'll try another bottle then when this one runs out. Sadly with 2 kids still in carseats all the storage in the rear seat area is a no-go for me, but I will find a way to keep it upright....maybe a custom Hotshot holster on the side of the bed?

I put mine in a zip lock freezer bag and use 2oz every fill up. I use 2oz because it says for performance use and what the hell were trying to prevent the fuel pump from failing so its cheap insurance.

I use Hotshots EDT at performance dose levels which is about 1.5oz for our tanks per fill-up. Note -you can not overdose EDT, if you do you will still get the benefits of added lubricity, but cetane and other benefits will plateau at the performance dose. This is direct from Hotshots themselves.

For those with leaky bottle issues. I bought a gallon of it and poured it into these high-quality squirt bottles off amazon that has a screwable cap that doesn't leak. I keep it on its side in my storage bin under the back seat with no issues.

I'm ordering hot shots and two of those bottles: https://opti-lube.com/empty-winter-8oz-long-neck-accessory-bottle/.

My plan is to have two in the car pre-filled with 1.5oz of hot shot.
When I empty one I have 2 "tank of time" to refill the empty one at home without rushing it at the gas station.

Hopefully, those bottles are of the right size to open the flap. I will report back in a week or so. If I don't, bother me about it.

Opti-lube XPD in every other tank fill
This^^^ ...and the Summer blend in the hotter months mixed 80/20 with their XL.
I also found a tip somewhere to use an empty Sta-bil bottle for dosing. Perfect, and it has a nice long neck to get down the fill tube.

To add another question to this thread…
What’s the cetane rating where you all are filling up? Is there a cetane rating that you would be comfortable with without using additives?

Most the ones I have used say 40.

Gotcha, I have mostly 40s around here, a few 45s. And a local(ish) company sells a guaranteed 50 or higher. That’s the only one I’ve used since the Jeep was new. Wondering if an additive would still be beneficial.

This is off the Opti-Lube web site:
Generally, diesel engines operate well with a CN from 40 to 55. As mentioned earlier, fuels with a higher cetane number have shorter ignition delays, providing more time for the fuel combustion process to be completed. Hence, higher speed diesel engines operate more effectively with higher CN fuels. Interestingly many countries, such as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and many other countries in Europe, require a minimum cetane rating of 51. Premium diesel fuel can have a CN as high as 60. The U.S. however, has a minimum CN rating at 40 and Premium diesel fuels are not required to have a higher cetane rating - it is left to the discretion of the supplier.
I need to check the pumps around here to see if they state the cetane rating.

Any chance you'd be willing to find that in your order history and share a link? Love the idea and would like to use a vetted product.
