It wouldn’t be a bad option for a poor man’s winch/come along, but yes…from everything I’ve read, they can be a bit hit or miss when being used as a lift.
I can’t process lugging one around on a daily driver, but I guess it completes the mall crawler look.
I’ve seen this style mounted on JL’s. Not sure if this is the one OP got.

Yup. With vehicle accessories, you can be as fancy as you want to be.
I thought the AEV jack lift block looked good (almost tacked one onto my recent order from them), but yeah…a block of wood would work just the same.
I’ve got a lumber bin in my garage. I’m willing to create and ship out 2x4...
Yup. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a picture of one mounted on a JT.
Please post some pictures once you get it mounted up. I’d consider something like that for trail use (mount up the jack when I need it and leave it at home when I don’t) at some point.
Decided to go with the AEV Procal Snap. Pretty easy to install once I figured out how to deal with the OBD II port (it was not clear from most of the videos and pictures what needed to happen to release wire lock (whatever it’s called) on both sides of the OBD II plug. ?
Why? I’ve seen take off panels for sale (folks replacing the hard panels with the Besttop flip-up) for well under a grand.
I find it hard to believe that a reputable body shop is going to repair the panels for less than that, as they’d have to prep and refinish the entire panels to get them to...
The video above was right on. Not sure how you would install this with the rail installed. I had to remove my rail, install it, and then reinstall the rail.
What a difference. Look awesome (perfect size, in my opinion) and rides great.
Edit: These measure 33.5” under load with ~38 PSI. With the AEV Procal Snap at 3, 3, 5…the speedometer is right on.

Good luck with your decision. From my perspective…all of the options (I checked the Nitto’s out, as well) are close enough in price that I think it’s more what you want, as they’re all up there, price wise.
I’m just going to pull off the band-aid and go with the BFG’s.
That really goes for “car“ or “truck” people in general though. The closest and most polite comparison that I can make is that gear heads (pick a brand) are often like high school cliques.
In my experience though, Jeep people tend to be more extreme with their “feelings” than other brands. The...
I‘m not in love with the stock Falken A/T 3W 285’s, but I’m happy enough with them, so I was thinking about just getting the 315/70 version of those. Looking at them on DiscountTire, they’re load rating E. I’m assuming the ride is going to be rougher with those going from load rating C (6 ply)...
I had a bad experience with someone that I sold a vehicle to years ago. That’s one of the reasons that I choose to dump vehicles off at Carmax or via trade-in, as opposed to dealing with private party.
It’s not a “there’s something wrong with the vehicle” thing. It’s a “if I still wanted to...
That and I don’t think it happens that often. Buy a $100-200 used soft bed cover (if that’s what you can afford) and it’ll keep your stuff just as dry as a more expensive cover.
If you’re hauling around expensive stuff, maybe go with an option (I.e. Hard tri-fold) that requires tools to access...
Hard. Over the years, I’ve had one soft cover (roll-up with button fastener), two hard covers/tri-fold, and one camper shell (current Alu-Cab).
My two cents…there’s nothing inherently wrong with a soft cover. I.e. Velcro on the side are easy to use. The ones with button fasteners though are...
That and if someone had any interest in talking with a buyer about a vehicle they were selling (or sold…in this case), they wouldn’t have dumped it off at a dealer.
