ESS will work off of one battery for 6 times in a row. During an ESS event the battery voltages are compared. If the voltages match 6 times in a row, a system fault is assumed and ESS is disabled until the next restart.
Did they replace the main battery yet? I've seen this reported due to a faulty main battery needing too much assistance during an ESS restart, causing a surge through the N3 fuse.
Here's my updated diagram, you need power at N1 which supplies power to the system electronics. If there's no power at N1,l you'll have to troubleshoot why not. In the mean time, you can jump from the main battery positive terminal to N1 to see if that get's it started.
Here's how I upgraded my speakers and it sounds great without an amp or sub woofer. The write up covers my JL, but the install works the same in a JT. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/base-system-speaker-upgrade.75015/#post-1562924
Not Alpine systems, but all the factory speakers in both my base system JL and JT were wired with negative polarity. The Metra adapters maintained the factory polarity. Since I left the factory knee panel speakers in place, I kept negative polarity on the replacement speakers to keep all the...
Here's a link to my simple dual battery monitor using 1 volt meter and a dpdt switch. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/ess-dual-battery-management.60034/post-2266434
Open the hood and get both battery voltages (aux battery has to be disconnected).
My 2020 JT Sport came with SiriusXM built into the 5" radio. My 2018 JLU Sport didn't come with it, but I installed a used 5" radio that had it and ran my own antenna.
From your description you may have blown the N3 fuse. It's explained at the bottom of the first post here https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/ess-dual-battery-system-operation.44028/post-709139. If that's the case, moving the cable from the N3 terminal post to the N4 terminal post...
I'm surprised yours sounds so bad, mine has 6.5" with a spec similar to your 6x9 on my 5" base system and sounds great with no distortion or issues all they up to full volume. Any chance you've got any speakers wired out of phase?
Here's mine...
I wouldn't, I'd leave that spot empty and run it as an equal 4 speaker for 4 speaker swap instead of a 4 for 8 swap. At least try it for awhile before you double up on the replacements.
The electronics are the source, not the load. The fuse gets blown when the electrical energy in the electronics goes through the fuse on the way to the starter.
What causes the spikes from restarting?
The difference between the cold start that doesn't blow the fuse and the ESS restart that does blow the fuse is for the ESS restart all the interior electronics are powered up. When the PCR reconnects the aux and main systems and the defective main can't power the starter, it's the additional...
