Agreed, semi official although I don't recall seeing it here. Also - why can't my dealer give me a better explanation than "it gives you a gear read out, and reduces torque in certain situations"? Perhaps just a lousy dealer....but I don't think I should have to dig through reams of forum...
That's good info, and I hope its the case. BTW, I did not say the FCA info was inaccurate, just that it is not highly technical and is rather vague regarding what the software does. And I specifically said "publicly distributed" documentation.......and by that I meant the recall notices as...
The FCA documentation that is publicly distributed isn't written by engineers either. It's written by corporate communications personnel - likely assisted by engineering, and for certain it is reviewed and edited by their law department. By the time it gets to us, it is hardly a technical...
I am fairly sure that jeep has admitted to this being a design flaw. If it left the factory with a design flaw, then I don't think the vehicle warranty applies - particularly when it has been characterized as a safety issue.
I'm not looking for a new clutch (yet).....I just simply want an...
Rob - can you comment on how that torque reduction occurs, and more importantly how long it occurs for? Will it go into a "limp mode" meaning severely reduced torque and mobility? And how does that get cleared? Simply falling back under a temperature threshhold, or something different? Some...
Good info regarding the heated clutch messaging. A simple warning with no limp mode is a much better solution, at least for me. I just wish Jeep was being more transparent about this.......
I have no doubt that the day to day driving will be fine. What I want to know is what will the software do If it detects a condition it doesn't like, meaning excessive heat. Sounds like Jeep is saying it will reduce power/torque...but how? Limp mode? For how long? What happens if this occurs...
very well said. I know when I am smoking my clutch, and in particular in reverse that is an issue. But an exploding clutch is another issue, and that's on Jeep to fix....and not by down grading my ride.
I've smoked my clutch a bit twice now, both times just getting done what needed to get done. Been driving manual for 50 years, and I know when a clutch is starting to heat up, and I know when enough is enough. And....most importantly to me...I want to be in control of that decision, not Jeep...
My MT Rubicon does fine with utility trailers, even with a decent load. I have a couple of boats with weight similar to your trailer, and it does OK with them....but not great. In particular, reversing up hill is tough......I've gotten whiffs of clutch a couple of times because you have to...
I'm also waiting to see what Edelbrock releases for their tune. I would love some more torque with my six speed, and Edelbrock offers something maybe a bit less stressful to the engine while still giving some punch. Website still says "out of stock" still. I think last report was waiting for...
I engaged @JeepCares, and they worked with my dealer to expedite the replacement tranny, as well as extending my warranty. They were fabulous to deal with. Send them a PM or just wait - often they will chime in on the forum when mentioned.
My manual transmission failed at 300 miles - would not hold 4th gear, kept popping out. Jeep replaced it with a brand new unit, and its been fine for 15k miles. Total repair time was a week. At the time I was not a happy camper, and told Jeep so. As a result, they extended my warranty, no...
I could not come up with a solid solution, so I did the obvious........nothing. It's mounted via the front mounting hardware, and seems really sturdy to me. I'm leaving it as is.
Sorry, no measurements, but here's a better pic. I just simply cut to fit - had the hitch mounted and just kept cutting until it fit in. Cut it clean from the top of the skid plate, and down low enough to clear the "T" portion of the hitch. Cut the slots for the "T" and it's done. Not too...
I have the Curt installed on my JTR with the steel bumper and the skid plate. It is not s direct fit - I had to take my sawzall to the skid plate for sure - but it is do-able.
