My concern with a conical step bit is the pressure I may need on the center cap at low speeds on the drill press; and if the cutting edge on one of those steps catches just right, I fear it'll crack it. I do have the extra cap since I bought all 5...

Same. If you want comfort in a Jeep, get a GC. I have a Commander and yeah it's comfortable and capable, but certainly not cheap. IFS just opens the door for more failure points. I'm even battling with the idea of a SFA on the Commander also ;)
