  1. Sunrider owners - MY mess-up, or theirs?

It was my understanding, maybe incorrectly, that Bestop had eliminated that S hook on the cable and switched to a cable anchored by an eyelet with a fasteners through the rail. I know that in my Sunrider the cable anchors are S hooks, but mine was made in spring of '22, same as my Gladiator. I...
  2. Can an extra oil quart cause a seal leak? Here's some facts -

Once it sets up, you probably don't need the bolts, at least that's how strong that Threebond RTV seems to be. But I wouldn't leave the bolts out. I have called that stuff "motor glue" because of it's strength.
  3. Can an extra oil quart cause a seal leak? Here's some facts -

Exactly. Back when RTV first showed up around here, it wasn't uncommon to pull an oil pan and find the oil strainer full of what we called "blue goo". I pulled intake manifold off off big block Chryslers that the shade tree mechanic had "sealed" the gasket on by coating it with RTV, resulting in...
  4. Can an extra oil quart cause a seal leak? Here's some facts -

Nice write up on sealing. The cast aluminum windage tray in the 3.6 also serves as a block stiffener, for the same reasons that the old 4.0 liter had the stamped stiffener on the main caps. I remember road draft tubes. Probably the best that could be hoped for is to prevent pressure build up in...

Thanks to you all. It is time, I have a surgery coming up and so I just moved up the end date to the 13th from the 27th of this month. I'll still be on here some, just don't plan on having any fresh hands on experiences with the odd Pentastar failure. I do suspect that I will be getting calls...

I'm retiring, actually, I am going from semi-retired to full retirement. I went to a two or three day work week 12 years ago, I couldn't stand not doing something useful. Now my body says time to put the wrenches away. Next Wednesday is my last day as a dealership tech. Plan on moving the...
  7. Factory/Dealer filled 6 quarts in my new 3.6

The Classic Pentastar was incredibly tough. I was given a repair order for one about six or seven years ago. Another tech had pulled the oil pan and the left valve cover (and upper intake manifold to get to the valve cover) to diagnose a noise, then pushed it out into the lot to wait for the new...
  8. I’m new here - could be great…

Back in the day, we had a parts man at my current dealership that could find any Mopar parts that I wanted. He, like most good parts men, remembered a lot of numbers, even after they were dropped from the catalogs. I once needed a torque converter lockup spring from a TSB that had become...
  9. Cold start rough idle and sometimes 303 code

Good idea, I would swap the coil to one cylinder and the swap the injector to a different cylinder. Pulling the intake is not required to swap injectors on the right bank, there is enough flex in the fuel line connecting the two fuel rails to allow the injectors to be removed. I use...

Almost too late to say it, but I work in service in a CDJR dealership. For six more working days.
  11. I’m new here - could be great…

Agreed. I quit mowing my lawn a couple of years ago. Now, I'm too lazy to even yell "Get off my lawn." at the youngsters passing by my house.
  12. I’m new here - could be great…

I had a '69 Dodge with the 440 Six Pack, the stock gear was 4.10. I swapped it out for 4.30 gears, a noticeable improvement for a quarter mile drag race. I also drove it at highway speeds, 65-70 mph around here. It turned about 3,200 rpms at 65 mph, and the only thing that bothered me was how...
  13. 3.6 pentastar 2020 major problems - Is the newer engine better in 2025 etc.

I have seen it happen, but it is very rare. The tone wheel was in perfect time with the phaser, so it didn't cause any DTCs, just very poor performance. Careful inspection revealed that it was ground out of time, it was far enough to be obvious (looked to be about 15 degrees just by eye), but...
  14. 3.6 pentastar 2020 major problems - Is the newer engine better in 2025 etc.

According to Chrysler, they are. But I have never seen one actually jump timing. I always verify that the cam will turn freely in the head as far as I can, turning it about 30-40 degrees. If it turns free, fine, if not I will pull the cam and find what is causing it to be tight. I have had an...
  15. 3.6 pentastar 2020 major problems - Is the newer engine better in 2025 etc.

No, if it does bind, the cam would cause the plastic chain guides to break, followed by the chain jumping over the teeth on the phaser. That is, if the engine even started. The starter has what amounts to a "fuse" built into it, and I have seen that fuse fail, causing a no start condition.

Sorry, wrong tune. The tune is from "Mandy", not "Sad Eyes".
  17. 3.6 pentastar 2020 major problems - Is the newer engine better in 2025 etc.

This is the only one I have seen in any 3.6 since the Pentastar came out. This was about a year ago, and it was in an engine that had been "remanufactured" and installed at an independent shop. It is not only possible, but likely, that this one broke because of factors involved in an...
  18. 3.6 pentastar 2020 major problems - Is the newer engine better in 2025 etc.

Intake cam from a Classic Pentastar in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have long considered inconsistent quality control to be a factor in the rare 3.6 Pentastar failures, both the Classic Pentastar and the PUG.
  19. Teraflex leveling kit install

I used the Terraflex 1.5" leveling kit and the Mopar lift kit lower control arms. Well pleased with the results, didn't need to do an alignment, just re-centered the steering wheel and everything was good.
  20. I DID IT!!!

I made two changes to my Gladiator pretty soon after I bought it. Both were comfortable related, a dead pedal and a set of short seat jackets for the driver's seat. Between these two mods, I find the seat in my Gladiator to be almost the most comfortable seat I have ever had in any vehicle. As...
