  1. New JT Gladiator Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Another wasted service appointment. Took the t.s.b. in and said, "these are our symptoms." They said there's nothing wrong at the end of the day. Perhaps there is a lesson we must learn. My first Jeep experience was in 1964 driving an old army jeep during a summer job @JeepCares--note sent.
  2. New JT Gladiator Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

The steering box has an adjustment screw on the top with a lock nut. Once long ago I set one too tight on my car. There was no return-to-centre after a turn. It was easy to fix. I adjusted the screw back and went for a test drive. Fixed it. Hope this helps.
  3. Bad steering box 68418449AE

Thanks for your post. I feel the same way.
  4. New JT Gladiator Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

  5. New JT Gladiator Steering Issue TSB 08-074-20 (for "Improved Steering Feel")

Good news. My faith in Jeep will be restored when it's done and works.
  6. Steering play / dead spot fixed with new gear box

Thanks for your post. Our JLU wandering and vague steering hasn't been fixed by the dealer. In fact the dealer was shut down for most of the pandemic. They've been bought out. Maybe the "new" dealership will help us resolve this issue. It's unsafe.
  7. How to Adjust the Slop out of the Steering System (I am finally happy with my Jeep)

Hi Matthew, I'd love to have WANDERER as a personal plate on my JLU. I'm in the same boat. Just had an oil change done. The "dealer" said we had to book a separate appointment to get the steering box looked at; no promise they would adjust it. We've had similar answers from the day we took...
  8. FCA gone

I believe the engineering on our JLU is really good. It's a wonderful vehicle, except it has steering and wandering issues. I think those are poor supplied parts or poor installation. I really want our next JEEP to have solved these issues. I appreciate your post. I'd love to see the Brampton...
  9. How to Adjust the Slop out of the Steering System (I am finally happy with my Jeep)

Excellent! But that's a lot of weights on that wheel! ;)
  10. How to Adjust the Slop out of the Steering System (I am finally happy with my Jeep)

hi jimbom I have watched the video. The JLU seems to have more stuff in the way... It looks easier in the video than when I stand in front of the JLU with he hood up. edit: clarifying... I've adjusted steering boxes before. About 1972 or so. Volvos. The steering box was immediately...
  11. How to Adjust the Slop out of the Steering System (I am finally happy with my Jeep)

Thanks for posting. I haven't done mine at all. I'm still at the stage where I'm looking-down-at-the steering-box and wondering how I'll get at that thing!
  12. Water leak above passenger door

Years ago my HVAC guys couldn't solve a leak problem with a factory rooftop HVAC unit. It was a hole that was hard to find. Heavy rain, it came in like dam busters. Found it using a hose and gently washing the unit starting from the bottom. Has to be very low flow. Easier in a Jeep. Sit...
  13. BEWARE!!! Lower ball joints...creaking/clicking noise...

Mechanics taught me a long time ago to check simple things first. But I'm getting on (over 70) and going under a vehicle isn't as easy as it used to be. We have more than a little bit of wandering in the JL.
  14. BEWARE!!! Lower ball joints...creaking/clicking noise...

Thanks. Wonder what else isn't torqued right. With so many posts about wandering and steering problems on JL's -- Time to check under there.
  15. Loose Steering Fixed

Thanks Mark This is a very helpful post. About 1972. I fixed loose steering in Volvos. I haven't had the courage to touch my steering box in our Jeep. edit: back and reading to find more clues...this is a new post on this forum...
  16. How to Adjust the Slop out of the Steering System (I am finally happy with my Jeep)

I adjusted a Volvo Pitman box successfully back in about '72. Second time I did it on another Volvo, I went a little too far, and it was immediately too tight--no return to centre; binding. Simple. I backed it off and adjusted it right. No harm done. Worked right for many many years. Should...
  17. How to Adjust the Slop out of the Steering System (I am finally happy with my Jeep)

Good post! I had the same experience with a '70's something Volvo. Fixed it...took out the steering slop. Then I did another car but I hurried, adjusted too much. During the test drive I had no return to centre on the steering on first attempt, while driving a 1/4 mile or so. Went back, and...
