I ran many sets of the SSRs in the past in a variety of sizes on a variety of vehicles, and I found that they really worked well in all types of terrain. Everything from 31x10.5 to 37x12.5. I never cut a tire, I never had any uneven wear, and I got good tread life out of them. They...
Considering the length of the Gladiator's wheelbase and all that expensive and vulnerable emissions equipment under there, I went ahead and bought MetalCloak's full belly pan system. My fuel filter skid cover was already mangled despite only taking the truck on a couple easy trails so far...
The LTB's were 34x10.5, they ran short and were substantially wider than the "Special Service" 34x9 which ran about 35" tall and were ridiculously skinny with the deepest tread this side of tractor tires. The LTB's worked well, but the Special Service Swampers were the magical ones. Bigger...
It's a move in the right direction, but still not what I would consider a "narrow" tire. Back in my Suzuki and Toyota days I saw the magic that a 34x9 Super Swamper could perform.
Almost every vehicle I've ever owned over the last 30 years has been a manual transmission. Automatic transmissions were always so terrible, but finally they've gotten to be better than manuals. I still would have preferred a manual behind my diesel, but since the only transmission available...
I started out a Toyota and Suzuki guy. I was raised in the back seat of an FJ60 and then graduated to a Suzuki Samurai of my own once I got my driver's license. I've had a slew of IFS and solid axle Toyotas and Suzukis (essentially the same, just sized differently). In my own experience, I've...
About 10 - 12 sets of these 37's and 40's were bought by members of my Jeep club, and it's looking like most if not all of their orders are getting cancelled.
They market it as a "Ram Air" hood. If the Ram Air actually functions, this will hurt heat transfer rather than help it; we want as little air pressure underhood as possible to facilitate as much air movement through the radiator and charge air cooler as possible. Every bit of air that a...
To make the heat exchangers work, It's not just about getting air into the engine compartment; it also requires evacuating that air so that more cool air can flow through the exchangers. Modern engine bays are stuffed to the gills with all sorts of engine stuff, so there is not much room for...
What do they expect? Any of these plate-style hitch skids that don't have gussets to strengthen them are going to "tater" them the first time they actually have to support any weight. That's why I bought the one from Supreme Suspensions.
On my JK, I had a 3.5" lift which is just right for its intended 35-inch tires I ran for years. But then I wanted to go to 38-inch tires without going any taller with the suspension - I wanted an LCG Jeep.
I left the same springs under my Jeep, keeping the 3.5" lift. Normally this would have...
That's a really good idea. I'll pull those insulation pieces from mine and see what sort of heat it lets out, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't help. Anything we can do to reduce underhood pressure will mean less resistance to the inrush of air through the grille and heat exchangers.
I got bored one afternoon and decided to grab my Dremel and do the hood vent mod to reflect what Jeep should have done (or perhaps planned to do but never actually followed through with) the diesels. I don't know how much of a difference it will make, but since I tow an Escape 19 trailer in the...
How close must the antenna be to its ground plane for the ground plane to actually be effective? A pickup bed rail mounting location is too far above the bed floor and body tub to be able to bounce its TX?
Thanks for the advice. I'm no longer interested in CB; although my JK has had CB, ham, and GMRS/FRS for the last decade, I really never used CB in it anymore. If the bed rail returned decent performance (body tub and bed floor providing adequate ground plane) then I'd prefer to mount my Comet...
I'm glad I found this post. I'm looking to do pretty much the exact same thing since I know that there are very few good mounting points on a Jeep for any sort of decent ground plane. I have a Comet CA-2X4SRNMO that I use for 70cm, 2m, and GMRS and I keep going back and forth between your hood...
