That material isn't very conducive to the kind of adhesive that decal material has. I have seen a couple people make things for that spot but I feel like they wouldn't adhere permanently.
It’s really no big deal at all. Takes 10 minutes at most and gives you a nicer end result. It’s the more finished way to do it. Also makes working with the decal easier because you don’t have them in your way.
I generally use a tape measure off the bottom of the hood with the decal positioned with painters tape to adjust, then use the center hinge method to apply after it is lined up.
