I'll let you know by Spring. If I don't see any bears I'll drive it through the local bear park. The bear park has pens you drive through with Black Bears and Grey Wolves. I can also try it with the local Bison.
Started with an 88 YJ that someone had used a "my first welder" kit on extensively. Massive tires, shoddy metal fabrication, 4 cylinders of power. I have a picture of my then 1 and 5 year old daughters the first time we drove it with the top down; they're waving their arms in the air and have...
Spray on canola oil. Canada Oil developed an oil from rape seed in WW2 to fight corrosion on military vehicles. That’s were the name “canola” comes from. (I think someone posted that here earlier, or it may have been a JK forum)
I’m going to try it this year. Normally our winters start in early...
I completely get your concerns. First, no idea who he was, I wasn't really paying attention at first, it was a recommended video that started autoplaying. Second, he was very clearly supporting the technology and was very much in favor of it. He was using very generalized math. He was measuring...
I watched a video where they did math and stuff and figured out that for a four cylinder engine, the car needs to be off for roughly 6 seconds to break even with turning the engine off and on. Mine frequently stops the engine when I'm paused slightly in city traffic. When used this way, it's...
Due to gross negligence I may be able to afford a re-gear in the relatively near future. I have a sport auto with 3.73 gears right now. I'm thinking I want to do 35s and maybe eventually 37s, so I'm trying to decide between 4.88 and 5.13 gears.
I had my first snow experience with my gladiator this past weekend. We've had an unusually warm fall, normally we have snow starting in October.
I wasn't impressed with the stock tires; I didn't have any real issues but I could feel it starting to slip at times. I may swap the wheels from my...
The WRX was a bucket list car for me, I had wanted one since around 2005. I test drove one the same day I bought my gladiator. I hated the WRX. On paper it was almost as fast as the old corvette I would have traded in for it; in practice it was a much worse driving experience. The salesman was...
My guess is a new generation wrangler (and hopefully gladiator) in late 2028 for the 2029 model year will have the LO hurricane as the standard engine; with an expensive upgrade for the HO version available on special models similar to how the 392 is now.
I traded my C5 corvette in for my gladiator. I don't think the C5 was much faster and, at least at highway speeds and slower, the handling seems pretty similar.
The answer to “what can it do” is a lot. Depends on the driver. The ones I drove were mostly 6wd 5 ton versions. It was really difficult for a skilled driver to get them stuck on anything. I suspect your limiting factor (other than size) is going to be trying not to tip it over on inclines...
Technically I got to drive my gladiator through snow for the first time. I found some places where cold air is coming into the cabin. Not too bad of a problem when it’s 20 degrees outside but it will be if I don’t have it fixed when it’s -10 out.
seems like it’s coming near the lower corners of...
My guess is we get a hurricane option on the wrangler in about 3-4 years. I have nothing tangible to base that guess on, other than that it seems the gladiator just got a mid generation refresh so I assume it has 3-4 years left. The release of a new generation of wrangler (and Gladiator if sales...
Having spent more time in an FMTV than I ever cared to, I can appreciate both how awesome and impractical this is. That engine will accelerate pretty fast if you aren't towing anything and don't have a lot of weight in the back.
I thought we had blinged ours out by adding a cigarette lighter...
I want to go check now but I'm almost positive it doesn't have an outside lock. Maybe its just that I don't use it because 90% of the time when I have to unlock it I'm with my kids and they don't have a key, so I have to unlock from the inside anyways.
edit: turns out I’m wrong and it does have...
I love the crank windows, but after a few weeks I'm starting to wish I had power locks. I don't lock it often but when I need to its a pain to unlock all four doors. Especially since only one is unlockable from the outside.
I've added some side rails and a bullet point phone mount.
Wife wants...
Got my JK back from the shop today. Thinking about swapping the wheels with my gladiator. Gladiator has 32s, JK has relatively new 33” KO2s on Rubicon wheels. JK is 3.21 gears, the 32s might be better on it.
The JK needed wheel spacers and flat fenders to run the 33s. I’m wondering if I could...
