  1. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

Now add the clamp on meter. Channel 2 is shunt, channel 3 is clamp on.
  2. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

This is the ground for the aux battery. The shunt is 75mv at 150A. 80mv is 160A peak for the aux ground.
  3. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

I am in the process of verifying the current probe.
  4. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

    This is starter cable.
  5. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

Probes are the same, main gound peaks near 800A, aux ground near 200A. Main battery puts more current to starter than aux battery.
  6. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

I put a current probe on the auxiliary ground and the main ground. This is the starting current; channel 2 is auxiliary ground, and channel 3 is main ground. The aux ground scale is 50A/div; the main is 200A/div. Channel 1 is N2 channel 4 is the start relay.
  7. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

    Starter current
  8. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

Amazon $10 for 2, side post battery disconnect.
  9. Install auxiliary battery disconnect in 5 minutes

I added an auxiliary battery disconnect, so now I can check both battery voltages and charge each one separately.
  10. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

    Just having fun.
  11. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

Note the engine is running in all the pictures. The spike is the start current. Picture 2 is inverted I think. This picture is better.
  12. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

I put a clamp on amp meter on both grounds and the plus starter cable. First is starter cable.
  13. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

    Getting ready to measure current.
  14. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

N1 and N2 voltage, cold start.
  15. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

Take the relay case off, drill a hole in the top . Solder a test point on.
  16. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

I made a relay with a test point, it is green trace. The probe is connected to the output of the stater relay. Trigger near 7.8V rise. The test point measures less than 1 ohm to GND. It is the coil of the starter solenoid. Main battery ground.
  17. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

PCR is open during ess start. Trigger is starter relay green.
  18. Are the batteries really isolated during ESS stops?

Ess hot start. Ignore the spikes they are from the inverter. The pcr and starter signals are moved down. Last image I moved green up.
