In almost 2 years that I've owned my '20 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, I've done almost nothing to build it up. It was very capable right off the showroom floor.
But I'm now starting to modify it, so time for a thread that’s part-build and part-journal if the Jeep’s experiences. Hope you enjoy...
Guess I'm going to have to eat crow regarding my prior posts about the AEV bumper. Sort of.
Wanting an AEV Brute for years meant I HAD to have an AEV bumper on my Gladiator. That bumper was by far the most functional and best looking JK bumper IMHO.
Ordered my Gladiator Rubicon in April...
Save 20#s (vs AEV JK bumper) and cost 2x as much??? And 2x = $2,500+???
Ummm...no.
And I bet 10# of the 20# total weight difference is the fact that it’s a stubby vs full width bumper.
For quite some time I was a huge proponent of waiting for the AEV bumper. Still love the design but I’m...
Dunno on standard annex size. Can’t find dimensions anywhere.
But the Kido Bunk on the floor of the Roam Vagabond Annex idea I saw on a YouTuber video (OffRoad Recon?).
Like you I have 3 boys that go camping with me (wife refuses to camp unless it’s at the beach...lol), so I need a larger tent but want it to fit the Gladiator with no more than a 10” rear overhang and NOT have the bottom of the tent clear the cab roof.
The above 3 requirements really limit your...
Thanks. I’ll have room between rear of cab and rack...but yours is a valid concern on the overall rack height and whether 2-3” of additional height is enough to compensate for tent clearance AND off-road flex if I run a longer hardshell over the roof. So maybe I need 6” additional height...
Overall I’m very happy with how the All Pro Off Road (Tacoma) Pack Rack lines up. My expectation was that I was going to have to widen the tube midsections to gain more width to fit the Gladiator bed rails, but I don’t have to do so!
The tube height sits flush with the hardtop. This is great...
Initial test fit:
Overall tube shape is close to the shape of the Gladiator’s hard top.
Width of tubes at base sits on edge of Gladiator bed rails.
The main tubes angle inward at the top...so hanging a HiLift jack and Rotopax off the sides means they won’t stick out wider than the hard top...
Almost got into a lot of trouble in Red Rock Canyon State Park in California west of Death Valley!
Don’t care what the OHV trail sign said...that was NOT a Jeep Trail...motorcycles and ATVs only! Nothing like loose gravel down hill on a trail so narrow your tires are off the trail on each...
Everything in this thread still applies:

Make the trip to Idaho and tell Kent I said “Hi”. The SoCal dealers can f - - - off with their bull s - - - pricing and games.
Here's what I'm in the process of modifying to work on the Gladiator:
All Pro Off Road Pack Rack (1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma, long bed, cab height) = $499
The "U" tubes land exactly flush with the inside bed lip on the Gladiator.
And the "U" tube height is about 1.5" below the top most ridge...
Of course we can't overlook Jeep's Wayout Concept:
And GlacierGladiator's faithful reproduction of the Wayout:
https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/glaciergladiators-wayout-gladiator-build.25986/
And TampaJLU too...
By the way, I'll post up the Leitner because someone is going to mention it...but it doesn't meet my definition in the original post about a fully welded tube rack. The top cross bars are bolted on which is why it has 4 vertical braces @ 45*...
