  1. 2022 AEV Gladiator Rubicon build

It's even crazier than that. I am only going to run three wheels on this new Hemi Jeep of mine. Have the first tricycle Gladiator out there. I was thinking of how many thousands of times I slid onto a runway with only three points of contact. Worked there, oughta work with the Jeep. ;-)

    This just happened:
  3. From NW Louisiana to Canadian border and back gathering 13 badges along the way.

I had trouble with my (older) back and the factory mattresses. I upgraded to the air inflatable ones, but now it's a PITA to crush the air back out to close the top... In the aggregate, it's a good problem to have!
  4. From NW Louisiana to Canadian border and back gathering 13 badges along the way.

Awesome trip...The memories!!! I use the same IKamper tent. Which "mattresses" are you using? And if so, can you still close it up easily?
  5. Starting a 6.4 Hemi swap

You're anxious!!! Where does that put me???!!!! ;-) There has been some work, I am told. The owner told me he had the 392/Mojave hood painted and assembled and possibly some engine assembly, but as far as I know, the Jeep is still in the warehouse! Mike, the owner, told me he took the Jeep...

Well, I guess I committed... Set of 40" Cooper STT Pro ordered
  7. Question for those that went from 3.5" springs to 4.5" springs on mid-arms

So, I sort of did that. At one point in the past (before long-arm suspension), I added 1" spacers to my 3.5" Clayton springs. I DID NOT like the ride afterward. It was much more active along the roll axis. I played with the Falcon 3.3's to try and wrestle it back in control. My wife even quit...
  8. 2022 AEV Gladiator Rubicon build

Bed is optional... Lucky for me, I was a soldier for decades. I can sleep leaning on a doorframe if I need to, or in a cockpit, on the ground, or in a briefing while listening to the safety officer...
  9. 2022 AEV Gladiator Rubicon build

Good advice on waiting. Regarding the whole portal thing, it is new and exciting, and the next step in pushing the Jeep to be the off-road world-dominating leader I believe it to be. First of all, I am nowhere near as talented a driver as I see in a lot of you folks on this forum, so there's...
  10. 2022 AEV Gladiator Rubicon build

Yes, Portals When: Down the road Wider: yes Lift: Yes, about 4" More ground clearance: Yes. with 35" tires you can drive over a 5-gallon bucket at the differential and not touch $$$+$$$: Yes, about $20K Reliable: Yes, very (74 Weld) Harder on ball joints But, actually makes the axle...
  11. 2022 AEV Gladiator Rubicon build

Definitely not the weight savings route :-0 Naw. My goal is not to keep creating conditions that eventually cause the thing to morph into an unusable monster truck. I'm exaggerating, of course, but you get my drift. I think the smart route is to keep things reasonable, capitalize on the good...
  12. Starting a 6.4 Hemi swap

Oh, and on the brake thing: My plan was to go to TerraFlex's big brake kit. However, they can't accept any more than a 4.72" Backspace. My Borah wheels have a 5.73" B.S. My solution is to install Ram dually studs which are M14 X 1.5 and 3.5" long. They have the same knurl (.630") as the stock...
  13. Starting a 6.4 Hemi swap

I've done a lot of research on the 6.4 vs the 5.7...Two different motors in some ways. I chose the 6.4 SRT engine modified for the Jeep... Gears. Right now, with an RTT and a rack, I want to say I have a "heavy" overland setup, which would suggest 4.88's with at least a 37" tire. But I have...
  14. 2022 AEV Gladiator Rubicon build

The 6.4 Hemi swap is in its initial stages. The parts are in, and the engine is mostly prepped. The hydro-guide hood is at the paint shop. Plans are to begin next week with the actual install. I will post a reader's digest version here and cover the actual details in another thread focused on...
  15. Starting a 6.4 Hemi swap

I'm about to start the, "Actual Hemi-swap thread." Although my truck remains sequestered in a warehouse in pseudo-storage, they are prepping the engine and that is nearly complete. The new hood has been sent to the paint shop, and the parts have all been ordered and I think are awaiting the...
  16. Sell as is or part out?

I once built a 1991 W250. It was a frame-off complete resto-mod that I heavily modified. Built engine/transmission, D80/D60, and on and on. When I decided to sell it, people were offering $13-$15K, which wouldn't have covered the cost of the engine and transmission. Instead of selling it as a...
  17. 2026 Gladiator Rubicon has finally arrived

I know what they are. I have carried Bambi buckets in countries all over the planet. Funny story. During that Haiti invasion thing, whatever you call it. I was tasked to carry a bambi bucket to drop water on crowds of people. I guess that was in lieu of shooting them. Ever see 1,700 gallons of...
  18. 2026 Gladiator Rubicon has finally arrived

Nice! I have seen that. I was a NightStalker at Campbell then served in 7-101 as SIP for B-company, and later A-company and the battalion. By the time you were flying, I was likely flying for some other peeps in the Stan or Iraq. During the third night of the Panama invasion, I was tasked with...
  19. 2026 Gladiator Rubicon has finally arrived

I flew hundreds of them. Campbell, Korea, Alaska, Boeing plant... Bambi bucket? Those beasts can lift a lot! I won't say the max weight I ever flew one, but it was far, far over 50K! Ours had aerial refueling.I could watch the sun set then rise again without ever getting out of the seat...

What is the serial number of that "D" model? Wondering if it is in my logbook...
