Well I'm in Vancouver BC and I received my recall by mail. It is a country wide recall I'm told. I love my manual transmission and really only ever had concern about clutch engagement from a start. This software update was is a big improvement IMHO. For those of you reluctant to go and have this...
Had the software recall done this week. It vastly improve the clutch take-up in first gear from a standstill. There now appears to be noticeably more torque off idle and less need to feed in the clutch using revs. I'm very pleased with the change. I did have the language change problem when I...
I was pulled over once in British Columbia while driving my 1987 YJ. This was sometime around 1990 and before the bulletin posted in this thread. The RCMP cop was going to give me a "no door" ticket even back then. I pointed out to the cop the sticker from the factory that read something to the...
The manual transmission is one of the main reasons I bought the Gladiator. I recognize that the auto industry is working hard to kill off manual transmissions but I remain unabashedly devoted to rowing my own gears. This 6MT has some quirks for me and some strong points. On the downside, clutch...
Thanks Gobi Wan K, I also was considering painting the steelies to match just like the ones used in the movie shoot on Kauai. I think that will be a great choice. I was in a bit of a time crunch so I stayed with black
Whiteglad, thank you for your knowledgeable and well reasoned opinion on the clutch issue. It does sound like money and production choices have played a big part in this problem. I'd be happy to pay a bit more for a bit more durability.
I agree with you Jimbom, the Gladiator has a mostly proven drivetrain, my confidence is high this clutch issue will be an aberration in an otherwise solid truck.
Thanks everyone. I'm really glad to hear from those who are enjoying their manual transmission and hope they continue to provide good service for you all. I'll wait patiently for the hopefully improved rigs that come off the line after the COVID shutdown.
As good as the Auto is, I just don't...
I'm doing my best to adhere to my mantra "never buy a first model year vehicle".
So far I'm glad I've done so. I want a manual transmission Gladiator in the worst way but clearly it's going to be prudent to wait for the clutch recall to be resolved. All of you who rolled the dice on a 2020...
Gobi please!! As soon as late availability can come. You can see by my forum name it's got to have a stick too. No slush box for me. I'm liking the steel phone dials for my wheels too. For all you kiddies out there, a phone dial is a manual analogue mechanism with numbered holes in it that one...
Sorry guys those are the only photos I took. I can say that there was definitely no tonneau cover stashed anywhere on or in the truck. Wish I'd taken more pictures.
That build sheet is awesome Jeepsnthingz thanks for digging it out. Glad that VIN was put to good use, maybe we can get some more VINs from those other auto shows.
Ok, so here's a couple of photos of the Rubicon that was on display in Vancouver. We've seen lots of good photos of Red Rubies and I couldn't climb on for a VIN shot of this one. Nevertheless here it is for the red fans.
Went to the Vancouver International Auto Show after work yesterday. There were two JT's on display. A red manual Rubicon on a turntable with the doors removed and a small quad in the back. Pointed skyward on some fake rocks surrounded by fake ferns. No touch!
The other JT was a silver Overland...
