The other bottom line is: it doesn't really matter if you CAN tow above 6,000 because I can tell you you won't WANT to tow anything heavier especially if it has a large frontal area.
Data point of 1 but the 100k mi LR4 fluid was absolutely SHOT at that mileage with no abnormal use, now the LR4 is a little heavier than the JT but no way I would go near 100k again.
There are lots of people who flush their ZF's on the BMW, Rover and Jag forums via the cooler lines because this allows you to also get the fluid out of the torque converter (all the fluid). If you just drain and fill you only get about 60% of the fluid or something like that.
That said, I did...
It looks like you got the tiny bit of sway I got when using one of those #2200 Uhaul trailers. I finally bought my own at almost half the weight.
As I always say, you can easily tow over 7k with a JT: you will feel very safe but you won't win any uphill races.
Every time I roll into a Jeep...
If my Jeep disappeared tomorrow and I got a new one I would immediately:
put on a front bumper, the big steel one I now have has already saved me thousands from a deer hit.
winch (used for all sorts of things not just recovery)
Hike-IT throttle controller, so worth the money to be able to...
I just used an infrared probe on the fluid leaking out. It is much easier in winter as you have more time for the fluid to get warm than in AZ in summer according to the LR fellas.
I can tell you guys a few things with absolute certainty about ZFs from hardcore experience.
It is NOT lifetime fluid. I also live in the Land Rover world and their magical "lifetime" fluid cost me an entire LR4 and almost a second one I recently revived. It gets BURNT.
Measure what you took out...
Should have done this years ago! Suspension back to quiet as the day I got it new.
Removed each rear tire. Removed lower sway bar nut. Pull boot out (may have to lower jack because jacking outs torque on it) Wiggle, bend sharply, and swivel the upper rubber connection as far as you can in every...
This was my biggest concern. The ac being stuck on LO while it is so cold here.
Thanks, all!
Everything came back 3 hours later. Crazy. I thought for sure I was headed to the dealer.
Please help allay my fears.
Started to get the "battery low, Aux switches won't function" message for a few seconds on each startup this month. Figured I was at 4 years so that seems to be when the battery goes according to these forums and I was dying to do the aux delete anyway since I have...
This is exactly the type of echo chamber post with no facts, figures, stats, or cases I'm talking about. I would love for the internet or chat gpt or something to show me one actual case, counselor, where someone was 200# over gvwr and lost the farm and was "nailed to a wall by the courts". You...
I went round and round on this very question. I finally went with: neither.
I found a 90's trailer that was a split rail that someone put custom aluminum diamond plate in to make it a flat deck. It is MUCH lighter and more well built than anything I could find new. 1300#, tows my modified TJ...
#1 If you are setup right you should never get any sway.
#2 Do you have a brake controller? If you do, and you get any sway, hit the manual trailer brake button, control the sway, and then stop and fix the weight distribution/setup so you don't get sway.
Completely organic EV adopter here chiming in (2 years into a MYP). I would put a deposit on an NACS compatible JT tomorrow and pay what they ask.
(Also of note I am almost 50 and have driven 17 gas Jeeps and lean pretty conservative)
I can't speak for other EV's but once you drive a Tesla for...
It was a 16ft 10k in this post. Then the next year it was a 20ft 10k that probably had me slightly over weight but was not a problem at all. This year I purchased a 16ft 7k and it's perfect. Only weights 1300#.
I don't think 16ft or 18ft is a problem for TJ or maneuverability. In fact shorter...
Heavy duty cooling is apparently mostly just a bigger fan, it will have that with the tow package.
It will have the same great brakes they all do, there is never anything different there.
Tow package also gets a heavy duty alternator.
Someone will chime in who has all the charts but only max...
Something definitely seems off. Sure the frontal area, less gears than the auto, lift, tires etc. will take it's toll but what you are describing couldn't be more night and day from what me, SP and many others in this section are experiencing while towing much heavier/bulkier loads than yours...
