It started burning coolant about 1k miles ago. Headgasket maybe? The only stress that it has had is towing a trailer up around the maximum weight, but it has never got hot, let alone over heated.
I maintained my excellently, and at 125k miles or so it has failed me. I am very disappointed in what I thought was going to be a long running, reliable platform and I will no longer recommend it to others.
The tech diagnosed that coolant is getting in the combustion chamber. Rather than diagnose further and repair, the modern solution appears to be just throw it away and put in a new one.
I agree, you would think that cracks that were manufacturing defects would have showed up before now. I have done alot of trailer towing and while I have never overheated it, that engine has been working hard. A stretched head bolt or two allowing a headgasket leak does sound more plausible. It...
My local dealer diagnosed that coolant is getting into the cylinders. They say that in their experience it is likely microscopic cracks in the block that can not be repaired and the engine must be replaced. Sounds like Maximus Gladius’ experience. Anyone interested in a motor swap candidate?
I borrowed the combustion gas check tool (and bought the fluid) and it did not show any combustion gas in the coolant, so this would rule out a headgasket or some other leak that is higher pressure than the coolant system, right? Or am I understanding this incorrectly?
Didn't the Toyota 22R...
I still have a leak, very slow, but it is leaking. Blackstone detected coolant in the oil sample that I sent them, but I am not seeing any oil in the coolant (and it tested negative for combustion gas in the coolant) or indication of coolant in the oil. I do think that I am smelling coolant in...
125k miles and the thermostat housing (plastic) cracked for some reason. I had it fixed at the dealer and had the drive belt replaced while they were there.
I took my Gladiator to the dealer for the first time ever last week to have them track down a coolant leak and perform the computer updates. I unmarried the tazer that has been in there continuously since 2020 and requested that the technician activate the passive door handle in the Jeep’s...
My start up misfire has went away since I started using a battery tender. I pulled the battery (I am only running one) and tested it and it returned fine, but when I start without keeping it on the battery tender for a couple of days I get a red alert on the dash that I am guessing is low...
A quick update- I am up to 122K on the Gladiator now and towed my 5000 lbs., 21 foot Outdoors RV trailer 10,452 miles this year. The only incident was a trailer axle bearing retainer coming loose and allowing the hub to back off and chew up the bearings. I have had this happen before (Dammit...
That does look pretty cool, but I still prefer my Bulletpoint 'single ball passenger side phone mount'. I keeps my phone in essentially the same place as this, (but on the passenger side of the radio). If I decide not to put my phone on it I remove the arm and you do not notice the ball.
