Interesting design... I can't get to AutoBlog from work, So it'll have to wait until tonight for me ot get a closer look, But the design actually looks to be about half way between the JK Core Door and the Bronco Donut Door;
The key is going to be the text of the patent, and what it...
I'd be interested to see said patent, and what it actually specifies, it would be hard to patent something "like" the core door with all the pre-existing designs like the JK Core Door or the Bronco Donut Door...
As I said, i didn't want to be in the position of defending Bestop... You think they're a bad deal, I don't... (but I was able to bend the hinge wires and others enough that I don't have a 1" gap at the bottom)
I think rather than invest in the kind of re-tool you suggest, they would be more...
Oh, I 100% agree that from a daily driver perspective they are worthless, anything over 60mph and the uppers pull away from the the window frame, and you might as well not have them at all, But as a fair weather item you can stuff in the back of the jeep for the occasional storm they work well...
While I don't really want to be put in the position of defending Bestop on this.... CJ's had a nice tall flat sill on the side, Being designed to have soft doors on them from the get go... So it was a lot easier to get a seal around them than on a JK or JL/JT, that were designed for hard doors...
My wife towed my TJ Rubi (Total weight of TJ and Trailer roughly 5200lbs) to Windrock TN. from Stafford VA and back at the beginning of the month with the Sport S, 3.73s on 37's while I followed in the Silverado towing her JKU. She slowed down to 55 anytime the Tranny reached 230 Degrees per my...
Find someone just about to buy a JL Wrangler in your color, and offer them $3000 to get the 'Dual Door Group' and give you the half doors, That would currently be the cheapest way to get a set. maybe even after they start showing up as a kit..
Never mind, I just checked and the Dual Door groups...
I've got Core Doors on my 2 Door JK, I can try and check the fit of those, but only the fronts, obviously... I really don't expect they'll even be close to a fit though. I doubt I'll get to try it this weekend.
I do both, for the most part, I've found the quick disconnect systems frustrating, because they usually aren't all that quick, and I end up losing/breaking the linch pins/retainers, and bolts are more easily replaced...
My dedicated off road rigs don't have swaybars at all, my 3 mixed use...
With the Jeep running, Try spraying directly in to the open holes on the side of the alternator with a pressure washer, bet you see a lot of mud come out of it.
I'm actually running a set of those on my TJ Rubi wheeler... they provide more protection from slinging mud than a tube door, but no uppers available for them, and no seal around the lower part either.
Hmm, hadn't even noticed that until you mentioned it, yes, they do look they'll be much higher, to me the whole reason for a half door is Being able to view the front and rear tire, and the rocker panel while barely even leaning out of the vehicle. I'm going to have to actually sit in a JL/JT...
I may be in the minority, but to me a true half door, Like the Core doors or Mopar doors have always been my preference, and I don't ever remove the lower half when I have them installed.
I've had the full soft doors on JKUs, and yeah, just remove the whole thing when I don't want the uppers...
