If you upgrade to the 8.4" radio and activated the ORP feature with JSCAN or something else and ORP is working on the head unit, then plugging in the ECRI (or any other SGW bypass) will immediately give you working gauges.
When I ativated ORP with JSCAN, it took about 8 hours before it...
Word on the street is that ORP require a check-in with the mother ship once in a while to confirm your are entitled to it. Did you pull the battery when you did the winch? The radio can take up to 24 hours to re-learn all of the options from the vehicle. ORP is one one of the last things to...
I should have been more clear. My ECRI device is purely an SGW bypass. I think they may also make a programmer too of sorts, something like a Tazer. So in my case all I do is unplug it and plug the wires back into the factory SGW.
If you have a Tazer then yes you'd unmarry it first then plug...
Should be fine. ECRI said it's fine to leave it installed. Most people with a Tazer leave it connected as well. Even infotainment sells a single-function ORP enabler that requires their SGW to be installed to maintain the ORP too.
Just unplug it if you take it in for dealer service and you...
Got the Tazer today, and as expected, ORP do NOT work without the Tazer installed either. It behaves exactly the same as programming it with JSCAN.
I turned ORP pages off on Saturday to give it plenty of time to "learn" that they aren't there. The ORP pages went away right away on the head...
I picked up a Tazer Mini JL on sale so once I get that I will roll back the ORP settings from JSCAN, then try enabling ORP through the Tazer. I have to know now if it will truly activate ORP and have them work without the Tazer being left connected to the vehicle. I really don't think it will...
As far as I can tell yes. The two plugs that go into the Jeep's SGW would go into that cable and then the other end just leave it alone. I don't have that cable though so I can't say for sure. The cable has an SGW bypass built in so that should be enough to make your gauges work.
The only...
Do you have the bypass cable with an SGW bypass built in?
Like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Chrysler-Adapter-Universal-Compatible-DEGRADED/dp/B08MQ2LBYT/ref=asc_df_B08MQ2LBYT/
If it worked for you to program the Jeep with JSCAN or whatever tool you used, then it should work to enable the...
Good to hear. My ORP gauges seem to work fine too driving around as long as I have my ECRI SGW Bypass in place. Still have no idea why some of the gauges don't work without the bypass in place, makes no sense at all.
The Tazer has a lot of "live" features if you're looking for those things. I mainly just wanted to set my TPMS lower, prepare for larger tires in the future, and enable ORP so I went with JSCAN for now. Just didn't realize at the time that ORP won't work without a SGW bypass in place...
No it's all part of the 39.6 firmware. That's the problem with upgrading to the 8.4, UConnect/Jeep don't have an 8.4 radio associated with your VIN and therefore you can't get firmware updates from official channels.
Sure, here it is:

It's only $35 if you just want a tidier solution for a SGW Bypass. I don't think there's any software version on it and I don't think it's updatable, it's plug and play.
If you have that bigger dangly cable, only downside I guess is tying it up out of the way. I have the ECRI thing which is pretty small so I can easily just velcro tie it up under there and not worry about it. I also wrote to ECRI and they said there's no problem leaving it in place...
Good work! So this is 2 for 2 now (me and you) that have confirmed that the SGW bypass does indeed seem to be required to get the gauges to work. Plus the infotainment.com website basically saying the same thing.
I'm guessing you have the 6-speed? I have a transmission temp gauge too but...
I know it doesn't either. But look at this:
https://www.infotainment.com/products/obd-genie-jeep-off-road-pages-programmer-c-orp?variant=31054959247396
They sell an OBDII dongle JUST FOR ENABLING ORP and it's $179! And look what it says in the details:
The bypass device must remain...
If you've already enabled the ORP, you don't even need JSCAN or the OBDII connection at this point. Just plug in the bypass and the ORP gauges should magically start working :)
