a 285 tread (or 11.5) on a willys/sport like yours should have 0 poke. The poke comes into play on rubicons/mojaves with the slightly wider axles. Plenty of folks on here running rubicon take offs (285's) on stock sports with 0-poke.
If they would price that kit at $1,000 it'd be worth it. A replacement steering box is $500, so trying to sell a steering box with half a dozen $15 hoses, some brackets, and a power steering pump (maybe $150?) is highway robbery. Not to mention you also have to own a tazer to make it all work.
If I recall how everything works, that fuse would probably disable the system but not remove the problem. The problem is that the pump gets power directly from the battery through one of the larger fuses on the Z-case array (I think!)
removing that fuse would probably turn off the pump but...
Probably a good idea for everyone to lookup one of Shadow’sPapa’s guides to unhooking your batteries. I figure some folks will want to do that for long term parking and it’s not as straightforward as one would think.
There have been a few forum members who have reported it. One that I recall came home from work for lunch and their truck burned up in the driveway.
Another noticed smoke in some stop/go driving, pulled over, and poof.
So yes, the chances are slim, but it has happened.
I've been inspecting...
I don't think so but could be wrong. When digging around under there it seems the pigtail goes from the pump to the battery, both accessible from the wheel well.
I'm thinking passenger front wheel off, fender liner removed, and then it goes from there.
If, for some reason, it's a cab off then...
Please tell us everything you know about the power steering pump and put that response in this thread: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/recall-1m-jeep-wrangler-and-gladiator-fire-risk-june-9-2026.108998/page-2
