Really wish this thread showed up in a google search before I went with Yukon gears. I switched from the stock diesel gears to 4.88 yukons and only my rear axle whines. I trust my local mechanic that did the work, he is a jeep specialist and enthusiast that has made a living off performance...
Allstate will pay you the market value to replace the jeep. Why do you think they will pay you the price you paid when new??
HOWEVER I have seen a handful of gladiators on the side of the road on fire like this. Its always in the same location....

Much appreciated. I "rapid prototyped" a bracket using 1/4" plate and angle iron. It looks terrible but there is no interference and it easily installs. I need someone with a laser cutter to cut one out lol. You could probably design something a lot better. But, as a proof of concept it works.
I am looking for a mounting plate for a single compressor ARB in the engine bay. There is definitely a way to mount the compressor in front of the brake cylinder and over the ABS lines, but I don't see anything in market. I made a metal bracket myself but it looks like crap. I wouldn't mind...
Okay I put another ~600 miles on it and the noise has not changed. I think the gears are crap from the factory. I'm not too happy with yukon right now...
Due to quality control issues, I'd recommend having a professional do the install with parts they order so they have to stand behind it.
Had an excellent local shop redo the install. They've done hundreds of jeep regears.
They rebuilt the rear with new bearings but reused the yukon 4.88s.
Has the same noise. I don't know if I installed them wrong initially and caused them to break in weird or if they're defective. The shop...
Interesting. I drove around for an hour or so this morning and find that it may get real intrusive on a family trip while towing a trailer. I'm going to drop it off at a local jeep shop on monday and see what's happening. I had my chance lol.
Okay I increased backlash to 9.5 mil and the noise is better but still there. I did not change pinion depth. Do I need to change pinion depth with backlash? I didn't have much time today to try things, so I didn't run a gear pattern.
freaking wow. I saw the video where those gears were installed when researching how to do it...part of the reason I bought yukon gears. I'm glad he followed up on it. Mine is much more high pitch and not as loud.
I should probably replace the crush sleeve as well. I backed the pinion nut out on accident then retorqued it and that's been in the back of my mind haha.
I'll open it up to 8 mil or so. What's crazy is that I'm pretty sure I set backlash to 8 mil originally because I went by the spec I found at the time, but this weekend I set it to 3 mil when I redid the gear pattern. I'm pretty sure I just ended up causing the same symptom in a different way...
