Sadly, I am still waiting on my axle. I bought a 2016 2 door Rubicon manual for a good price I think. This Gladiator re-gear has cost me over 35,000 so far LOL. But, I have a spare Jeep now.

I know you trust your local guy who is a "specialist" and so on, but - Not long ago I rebuilt a differential that has been built be a "axle specialist" in Kenosha - the guy built performance rear ends and "knew what he was doing". Good reputation.Really wish this thread showed up in a google search before I went with Yukon gears. I switched from the stock diesel gears to 4.88 yukons and only my rear axle whines. I trust my local mechanic that did the work, he is a jeep specialist and enthusiast that has made a living off performance off road jeeps.
I've had the gears in for about 10k miles. Have a whine around 45mph under slight load. No way this is a Jeep issue if no other manufacturers have this problem.
When I am tired of the whine I'm just going to swap in some dana-spicers but I find it VERY unethical of yukon to blame jeep.
He's a very friendly and forthcoming guy. I had him send me pics of the gear pattern and backlash measurements. Everything lined up with specs and suggested patterns. They do a lot of diff work so I am not in a position to second guess him without specific knowledge. I could take it to someone else when I have spicer units installed, but I haven't seen a specific reason outside of the whine.I know you trust your local guy who is a "specialist" and so on, but - Not long ago I rebuilt a differential that has been built be a "axle specialist" in Kenosha - the guy built performance rear ends and "knew what he was doing". The pinion bearings blew out after my friend got a few miles outside of Kenosha.
He got it towed back to another friend's place where they swapped in a temporary differential - and he brought the first one to me.
A mess. It was a limited slip unit and the guy had the plates and disks out of order, the spring plates in the wrong position, among other stuff.
Last I knew, after my friend picked it up from me and installed it, it's been working fine.
I was so amazed at the mistakes, I took pictures to show what not to do with limited slip.
I don't know what happened to the pinion bearings, but after seeing that, I figure it could be any of several things.
Could be you have a gear problem - or could be the setup wasn't just right - or break-in wasn't ideal.
No one is suggesting he's a rotten guy or in anything for a quick buck. Wow, where do you get that from my post?He really doesn't seem like someone trying to make a quick buck. Its very possible I am not familiar enough with the voodoo of reading gear patterns, but that simply puts me in a position of ignorance rather than certainty.
With so many of us having the same exact issue and it all seems to be with Yukon gears only, I think it's safe to say it's a gear problem. My Gladiator went to two different shops to resolve the gear whine and both confirmed it was the Yukon gears.Could be you have a gear problem - or could be the setup wasn't just right - or break-in wasn't ideal.
