Sadly, I am still waiting on my axle. I bought a 2016 2 door Rubicon manual for a good price I think. This Gladiator re-gear has cost me over 35,000 so far LOL. But, I have a spare Jeep now.

Still waiting for my axle. Spicer builds them in slow motion I guess. It would be interesting to watch.

Really wish this thread showed up in a google search before I went with Yukon gears. I switched from the stock diesel gears to 4.88 yukons and only my rear axle whines. I trust my local mechanic that did the work, he is a jeep specialist and enthusiast that has made a living off performance off road jeeps.

I've had the gears in for about 10k miles. Have a whine around 45mph under slight load. No way this is a Jeep issue if no other manufacturers have this problem.

When I am tired of the whine I'm just going to swap in some dana-spicers but I find it VERY unethical of yukon to blame jeep. I worry that these gears are going to grenade at any moment but they're not showing any abnormal wear.

I know you trust your local guy who is a "specialist" and so on, but - Not long ago I rebuilt a differential that has been built be a "axle specialist" in Kenosha - the guy built performance rear ends and "knew what he was doing". Good reputation.
The pinion bearings blew out after my friend got a few miles outside of Kenosha.
He got it towed back to another friend's place where they swapped in a temporary differential - and he brought the first one to me.
A mess. It was a limited slip unit and the guy had the plates and disks out of order, the spring plates in the wrong position, among other stuff.
Last I knew, after my friend picked it up from me and installed it, it's been working fine.
I was so amazed at the mistakes, I took pictures to show what not to do with limited slip.
I don't know what happened to the pinion bearings, but after seeing that, I figure it could be any of several things.

Could be you have a gear problem - or could be the setup wasn't just right - or break-in wasn't ideal.

He's a very friendly and forthcoming guy. I had him send me pics of the gear pattern and backlash measurements. Everything lined up with specs and suggested patterns. They do a lot of diff work so I am not in a position to second guess him without specific knowledge. I could take it to someone else when I have spicer units installed, but I haven't seen a specific reason outside of the whine.

He really doesn't seem like someone trying to make a quick buck. Its very possible I am not familiar enough with the voodoo of reading gear patterns, but that simply puts me in a position of ignorance rather than certainty.

No one is suggesting he's a rotten guy or in anything for a quick buck. Wow, where do you get that from my post?
I'm only suggesting that those who "have done this many times" or are "well respected" (and too often it's a trust based on "but they are fellow Jeep people"
I'm only saying - you say he can't have messed up because he's a standup guy, is a Jeep guy, does mods and multiple other reasons - where I'm saying -yeah, it could be a mistake. To suggest he's just so very good it can't possibly be HIS issue is leaving out the human factor.
He also may have been successful because of some luck at times, there's many ways things can go bad. To blame the gears because the guy who installed them is a fellow Jeep person and does mods and on and on - just wrong.

"they do a lot of diff work" - that's what was said about the guy who did the differential I had to totally rebuild, too....... @#$% happens. And maybe sometimes people get by on less than ideal and things just stay quiet and work. We don't KNOW.

With so many of us having the same exact issue and it all seems to be with Yukon gears only, I think it's safe to say it's a gear problem. My Gladiator went to two different shops to resolve the gear whine and both confirmed it was the Yukon gears.

Mine was replaced under warranty at 20k ish miles. I’m not sure what failed. They replaced the entire assembly. New rear brakes and all. It was making loud banging noises on low speed turns. 2020 Overland with 3.73s and trashlock rear differential. The new one has been fine. I just did a diff and transfer case service and everything looked good.
