So I want to add a rear diff skid plate and cover to my Rubicon.

I know I have the M220 rear differential and need to use 75W85 oil...but Im not sure about the additive that may be required??

Per book:
We recommend you use Mopar Gear & Axle Lubricant (SAE 75W85)
(API GL-5). Models equipped with Trac-Lok Limited Slip Differential
require a friction modifier additive.

Is Trak-Lok traction Control?
Is Trak-Loc Rock-Trac?

Thanks in advance for the help!

There is Track-Loc which is limited slip and needs the additive, and there is Tru-Loc which is lockers on the Rubicon and does not need additive.

If you have a Rubicon, you do not need it.
If you have a different model that has Track-Loc, you need it.

You can tell on your window sticker if you have it, or you can ask the dealer at the parts department to run your VIN number. It will give you every option on your vehicle.

PS. The dealer may try to charge you a lot for the Mopar Gear Oil and Additive (if you need it). Do not allow that. Tell them, you need the discount. The most they should charge you for the gear oil is $52 per liter. Note: you can get comparable stuff aftermarket for $30. I am still using the dealer stuff since it is under warranty.

Note: Most Parts dealerships I have tried during the Virus are giving discounts if you ask.

If u have rubicon, u should have the dana 44 axles with lockable front and rear diffs. Trac lok is a lsd on other models.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply!

I have a Rubicon and my build sheet. You can get your build sheet from entering in your VIN at this site:

https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing

I saw NO trak-lok or track-lok listed.
No additive needed for the Rubicon, but, the dealer will still try to sell it to you...lol You will need 3 liters of Gear oil. 1.03 liters for the front axle, 1.45 liters for the rear.

Yes, I just changed mine and added Metalcloak diff covers and skids. I used Mopar 75w85 for both axles because of warranty... Note: the price and additive discussion with the dealers parts guy was irritating. lol.

Note2: If you are towing, the manual says to run Mopar 75w-140 in the rear axle, so, you can get that at the dealer also.
