For a few out there who may be wondering, since I've seen this on a forum I admin as well as facebook pages I'm a member of -
What's happening out there, and we see it a lot on ebay and facebook pages related to cars, trucks, whatever - someone takes a picture that's posted elsewhere - say I've posted a picture of something I have. The bad guy grabs that picture and puts up a sale ad saying that they have this widget for sale and here's a picture of it. Cool, you like it, you send them the money - and they never even had such a thing.
A car I sold a while back was pretty well known nationally. Very easily recognized. Apparently a bad actor didn't know they grabbed a photo of a car thousands knew about. One of my car pictures was used in a scam sale ad for a Javelin on ebay. People recognized the car and contacted ebay and the auction was taken down.
The reason for a hand written note is to prove it's you, and it's your item.

Too bad a few crooks mess it up for the rest of the good people out there.

ATTENTION SELLERS: All users who wish to sell in the marketplace section are now required to abide by the following RULES. If a sales thread/post does not comply, it is subject to DELETION without notice.

Rule #1 - Post a picture of the actual item you are selling (NO stock photos).​

Rule #2 - The picture must include a REAL piece of paper with your Username and the Date written on it next to the product you are selling. NO photoshop or digitally edited photos are allowed.​

Rule #3 - NO "feeler" threads are permitted. This section is only for items that are actually available and ready to be sold currently.​

Rule #4 - The listing must include an asking price. OBO (or best offer) is allowed but it must be accompanied by an asking price.​

Rule #5 - No "threadcrapping." Classifieds threads are not meant for negative discussions. Comments on pricing are not allowed. Only people with genuine questions and interest in the item for sale should be posting in the classifieds threads.​

We understand that these rules add more steps to the selling and buying process, but these rules have been implemented to protect both buyers and sellers, so thank you for your understanding and compliance.

Rules #1 and #2 are EFFECTIVE TODAY, JANUARY 11, 2023. Please take note of the date when viewing or reporting a sales thread.

If you have an existing sales thread posted before January 11, 2023, you do not need to edit it. This rule will be enforced for all NEW sales threads created starting today, January 11, 2023.
