Carrot Fact: The old wisdom about carrots being good for your eyes was completely fabricated. In WWII the British wanted to hide that they had developed radar to see incoming Luftwaffe aircraft and were using it to vector interceptors. They put out propaganda about how they fed their pilots and spotters carrots to improve their vision at night, even encouraging people to plant carrots in their gardens to help the war effort.

It worked so well that their counterintelligence service soon reported Germany buying up as many carrots as possible to supplement their pilots' rations.
