So…. from the day I drove my Gladiator off the lot, it had a tremendous amount of play in the steering. I immediately took it to the dealer I bought it from and asked them to check it. They of course came back with there’s nothing wrong with it. I ditched that dealer for other reasons and went to another dealer where I brought up the same concern. I even asked them to change the steering box. By the way, it does have the new black box. Like the previous dealer, they stated there was nothing wrong. For 2 years, I complained and asked for a new box to be installed under warranty with no success. I finally took a video while driving and asked that someone ride with me so I could show them the problem. The Service Manager took a ride with me and stated “Oh yeah, there’s a problem”. I left it with them and they called and said they replaced the track bar and some other linkage parts but no steering box. Optimistically I went to pick it up and there was absolutely no change. I asked for someone to ride again. This time the Service Director. I begged and pleaded for a new steering box and he stated that his hands were tied but he could put in a ticket for the Regional Technical Advisor to approve a new box. Denied! At this point, the T/A was supposed to come in a few weeks and ride with me. He ended up not coming due to family issues. I was told to take it to another dealer to get a second opinion. This is where it really went south. The dealer, Stateline Jeep in the Rockhill, SC area, knew I was coming and when I arrived the Service Manager walked out and without a hello, kiss my &!$# or anything said “ Yeah, I’m aware of your case and I’m not going to touch it.” I proceeded to state my case and the litany of crap that followed was enough to make me want to choke him out! He told me it was Jeep thing and it is what it is. If I changed the steering damper that would fix it and a bunch of other crap. Too much to type all. Now, one thing I forgot to mention is that I travel a lot for work. So after I bought mine, wherever I would travel to I’d find a Jeep dealer and test drive a 2021 Mojave. This was from California, Texas, New York and many places in between. They all drove like a dream. My steering box was crap and that’s all there was to it. I finally broke down and called the Jeep Customer Care line. With some advice from my dealer, they finally approved the replacement and low and behold, my Jeep drives like dream now! It’s amazing how many excuses I was given as to why it was not the box when anyone with sense knows that was the problem. One thing I was told was that new box was bullet proof and can’t be the problem. Like every box comes absolutely perfect and can never be bad. Isn’t that what the warranty is for?! Anyway, if you have this issue and get the same response I got, fight like hell and hopefully you’ll have the same outcome I did.

I am glad you got your problem resolved.

The Saginaw style of steering box
used on the Gladiator
can be adjusted.

There are YouTube videos showing how to do it.
It was nerve wracking, but I adjusted mine.

This is a video for the pre-21 aluminum box
which was replaced by the iron box, fortunately,
but the adjustment procedure is the same
and he does a fair job of showing how to get to it on a Gladiator.

It is a mystery why garages and mechanics
either do not know this
or simply refuse to do it.
