Wanted to pick your alls heads as to a good cover for my Gladiator. Don’t really want to get anything flimsy, preferably a tri fold or something similar.
I have a BakFlip MX4 on my Ram 2500. It has been a great cover for about six years now. I live on dirt roads in western Montana. It has seen all kinds of weather. Many long road trips to AZ, UT, CA. The cover has performed very well.
When I got my Gladiator earlier this year, I bought a Gator FX. Very disappointed in the Gator and would recommended against that brand. (It is sitting in the shed if anyone wants to make an offer on it!) It leaks badly. Dust and water. Never had those kind of issues with the MX4. Their customer service is horrible. The hardware is less robust compared to the MX4. Not unexpected on that point as it is a less expensive product.
The Gater showed up missing a large chunk of the hardware. I got the run around from their customer service about getting replacements. I was originally told it was going to be 4-6 weeks before they could ship it! To send me a bag of nuts, bolts, and fittings that are likely sitting in bulk, in a box in the warehouse! Then it was going to come via UPS Ground. Thanks a lot!
I had ordered the cover a month before the first offroad trip with the Gladiator, just so that I could have it installed in time for the trip. It took a lot of calls and emails. Finally got the parts the day before I was to leave! Great fun installing and loading before taking a 900 mile drive to meet up with my buddies.
This will all depend on your needs and/or how you use the truck.
I will say….. Unless money is tight and you’re on a budget, , don’t get a ‘soft tonneau‘ cover. Even with care & vinyl protectants, they won’t last nearly as long as hard covers.
We use our truck bed for hauling all sorts of stuff / including yard waste.
We have the basic Bakflip G2 (hard) trifold. This is my 2nd one. I had one on my previously owned Canyon. The cover was still in awesome condition when I traded the truck in after 8 years.
We love the functionality of it….and you can take it completely off if needed.
Every once in a while, I’ll need to take it off for hauling something ‘bigger‘ - say for instance- a piece of furniture that needs strapped down against the cab-end.
