The Mrs and I are trekking down from ME to TN for the 2022 GSMJI and making some stops on the way. Originally planned with my buddy and his JK but his Jeep is out of commission for a while, so now we’re flying solo.

Camping nearby the night of 8/22 and looking to spend the day 8/23. I’d put myself at the higher end of “novice” and need to drive on to TN, so we’re not looking for anything too crazy but would like to get the BOH and some other trails too, gotta justify the purchase of these helmets…

Looking for a friend/guide/partner-in-crime for the day. Anyone interested in joining up?

Then, on to TN…

I’m in Kentucky and have been initially interested in going to Bearwallow sometime soon. Especially after knocking out Windrock park in Tennessee this past weekend, Turkey Bay earlier this year, And red bird SRA in Indiana late last year all of which are BOHs in my general area within reason.

Bearwallow is like four hours from me so that’s why I’ve been contemplating on going however after recently finding out that you have to have helmets is a bit ridiculous almost discouraging me to even try to go now. Besides that it’s $50 per person. Granted that is good for a full year but still just seems a bit steep especially considering you have to wear a damn helmet. Windrock park which is the largest off-road park in the whole region With tons of more trails isn’t even $50 let alone $50 per person.

On a positive note I have heard on numerous occasions that Bearwallow is one of the best Trail systems as far as being marked and identifiable.

Yeah, I absolutely understand your notes. I noticed the price when planning the trip, definitely the most expensive park on our route especially since I need to buy helmets too. Considering skipping it, but then again we live in Maine so when will we have another opportunity?

Although seriously considering skipping this due to the cost/benefit, anyone still interested in joining up?

I know this is a bit of a revival. But did you end up going to BW? If so, how was it? I'm finally considering going in a few weeks. Still not happy about the helmet rule. But I did find out they do half off price on permits for military and vets considering I was wanting to bring a few possibly. Takes a little bit of that pricing issue away considering normally price. Beautiful state, but I guess when more than half the state lives below the poverty line they have to justify pricing on anything they can.
