I was up in that area in mid August... might have actually crossed your path. Goose lake was one of the possible side trips we were looking at. Actually did a couple others nearby. Your description of the trail is spot on as with many trails in that area... e.g. not necessarily too difficult, but not anything you will go fast on. The views are breathtaking... no wonder they call it "Top of the World"!
