When I was hit by the woman who thought her little white car could occupy the same space as my F250 on the interstate, her insurance wanted me to use the cheaper shops and insisted on cheap replacement parts. I ended up settling for all I could and never fixed the truck as frankly, few ever even noticed the damage.I have never had that experience with my insurance and claims reps I have worked with only suggest the repair place. I guess if one has cheapo insurance then they cut corners. Also here in Illinois it is no fault insursnce.
My own insurance has been fine - never any problems, but I also had to deal with the insurance my father had after he was killed and I was left to deal with collecting for his totaled truck and so on. Man they sure tried to get by cheap. I never relented and we ended up with almost 3 times their original "offer".
Part of it is because some insurance companies rely on 3rd parties to determine values, gets tricky as you have to go through a ton of back and forth.
I trust my own company, never dun me wrong and in fact usually go on the high end of things, but...... when it's the other guy, they'll do all they can to get by cheap.
