I had this in mind from when I ordered the soft top. I wanted congruency with the topper and even passed on a great Alu-cab deal but no self respecting plumber's truck doesn't have a pipe rack so something had to happen and I wasn't happy with the Datin system or price. The system because it covered the whole side not allowing access.
I bought the Softopper used and after the purchase was casually informed that it was actually a Tacoma topper and if you look you can see the Gladiator topper is taller almost to the roof of the cab and possibly a bit longer too. I would've protested but had in mind that with my plan, the smaller topper may be a necessity and sure enough...
That was step one.
Around the holidaysi ordered a black aluminum "contour" Adarac from RHR Swag. Took about 2 weeks to arrive. First thing I noticed was the label said "Gladiator/ Tacoma which is odd because the Tacoma has a much lower cab in relation to the bed rail. Taking an upright outside it was apparent anything hanging over the cab could possibly make contact. No good. Called the mfr Agri-cover and they said the only taller uprights came with an F-250 kit.
RHR Swag made the swap a painless one and within a week had the new rack.
I had 2 criteria for this install:
The topper had to fold down without interference from the rack, and the rack would not be permanently attached to the bed. (No drilling and screwing the bed rail.)
This was achieved by fastening the topper rails to the rack rails so they're both held down by the Softopper clamps.
There's roughly an inch between the rails allowing for the side snaps to be done and undone with plenty of ready bed access from the sides.
The uprights required extensive cutting not only for installation but to be able to lower the topper. I'm sure the mfr load rating may have been compromised but for my needs I have full confidence in it.
