On a JK you can get away with that.

On a JL or JT your fog lights are outside the frame and you would lose those if you did that.

But what's the difference in weight between the steel bumper without extensions vs. that butchered plastic bumper?
If he were really worried about weight, he wouldn't have gone with those enormous tires...
