Anyone up for the Ocala badge trail 04JUN?

Next week and the week following are going to be a bear at work, and I think a day out in the Jeep would do my stress levels good. I’ve been wanting to go up to Ocala to try to get the badge, but I’m not sure I’m ready for a solo trip.

Where will you be coming from?

The Ocala National Forest BOH trail is about as safe as it gets. You should be more worried about driving solo on the interstate getting here or worse State Road 40 if that's where you're coming from.

Plus plus the place is crawling with off-roaders on the weekend.

Yeah, I know that, and I’m sure that I’ll be perfectly fine on my own - never have done a self recovery, but I’ve pulled a fair number of cars and trucks out of ditches before, so I know how to do do that much.

But it would be nice to have some company! Only off-roading I’ve done was in Europe, and it was a lot more fun when I was with a group of Brits than solo.

I know it's fun to ride with others but the whole "nEvEr gO aLoNe!" mantra (not that you've said so) has me a little put off.

I've made plans to go with others but it never materialized. I may be out of town this weekend but if not I might hit you up. Been wanting to go to citrus but would rather do that during the week. ONF is always a fun ride.

In certain situations I would agree that you shouldn’t go alone. Ocala definitely isn’t one of them.

Honestly, I’m most interested in having another set of eyes to find the trails and to nudge me back on the path when I start heading head long into the bombing range. My wife makes fun of me that I’d make the worst spy ever because I get so lost in my thoughts that I’ll miss very obvious things. An example - I once went out for a nice drive through the woods and was gone quite a long time. Wife called me and asked where I was, I had no clue, so I finally pulled out the gps to see - I was two countries away (yes, countries - I had driven from Germany, through Austria, and into Italy without realizing it.)

Looks like I won’t be getting up to Ocala this weekend. Have a whole slew of honey-do’s that I need to address.

Agree on the pin striping, seems to me this time of the year it is worse than in the winter. I've watched youtube videos on the ONF BOH and they said it was pretty tight and lots of pin striping. Never been to Citrus but Croom has some nice roads. But there again this time of the year it seems to start growing into the road.
