My latches end in 25 and 24. Just like yours. I'm wondering if the holes in the door are simply in the wrong place.

Eh, the holes are in the welded cross braces for the door...of they are on the wrong spot....thats a bigger problem. To bad because its gonna be 80s this week...would have loved to be doorless.

I just wrote JCR, asking them to start making their doors to accept the Bestop upper, even if the uppers aren’t sold yet.

In retrospect, I should’ve asked them to start making uppers, as well. In my opinion, Bestop’s monopoly on modern Jeep soft doors has benefitted way too much by lack of competition.

Paying a premium for a timely and quality-made product is to be expected. Waiting 2 years for what is being offered is a completely different animal.

Stop, don't bring it to the shop...on the front lower corner by the lower hinge, unvelcro and you will see 2 - 7/16 nuts...loosen those up and you will be able to adjust the whole back half of the lower door down....got that from the bestop tech service guy. Why that is not in the instructions OR on any you tibe video I don't know...but I will post a quick vid on my channel for people that search out this problem.

Here's the link to the quick video

Let me know if you can't find them.

Thanks, J&D, but I tried this. If you look at my pics, the door seams were parallel with the door edges. I adjusted the door as low as it would go. While that helps align the latch, it cocked the door at an angle and failed to get any of the gasket to seal. There was more than one problem.

First, the hinge pins were welded too low in the Bestop door frame. I could place a finger (without pushing through the gasket) between the bottom of the door and the body when it was closed. I could see sunlight shining through.

Second, the door’s frame/gasket didn’t take the Jeep’s hinge plate into consideration. It was binding and requiring me to force the door in a significant distance.

Third, the radius on the front lower corner doesn’t properly fit. This pic is mine, but I’ve noticed it on another owner’s pic (on this site). The door is shut and my fingers are through the gap. They didn’t force through anything.

Again, I wanted these to work. I’m mechanically inclined and this is my 5th Jeep, so I’m confident when I say the level of modification required to make mine fit was a problem with design and/or manufacturing and was not going meet my standard. I honestly hope mine were a defect and yours work out for you.

I hear what your saying...and I'm not a best top rep or anything....but considering how far off mine were...i was happy they got as snug as they did. I definitely have some gaps...and places water will get in....but what I do is use the factory doors from sept-april...then put on the soft doors, pull out all the carpets and pull the floor plugs. I know water will get in, and it will drain out. There is no other way to go doorless in less than a minute...and they all fit in the bed so you can bring them with you. I have the tops bent so they are snug now....the only thing I am waiting for is some highway driving to see if the front corners lift away from the frame. Sorry yours don't fit better.

How is the road noise without the carpet? I know it is only a mater of time before mine gets removed due to my love of going doorless.

The noise steps up some with the soft doors themselves, that's the bigger step in my opinion...then another step with the carpets out. For me it will only be a real pain in the neck when we are towing the camper for long trips, it doesn't bother me for the everyday commuting.

I can provide some info from my experience with soft doors. I had them on my JK for 6 years every summer and hated them, but I loved them because they served a purpose. I prefer to ride w/o doors as often as possible and I'm not about to lug around 4 x 80 pound doors every time it's nice out. The soft doors pop off and throw in the garage, or in the trunk of my Gladiator. Here are some experience info for you.

- If the latches are off by 1-1/2" like the photos., switch the left and right latches and they will be fine. My fronts were aligned but the rears I had to switch. Possible typo in manual

- Remember to loosen the 2 nuts behind the fabric to adjust the doors so they fit in the bottom as good as you can get them. Make sure to do this w/o the top half installed and the latch bolts loose. Spend the time doing this to make the best seal and alignment.

- Buy pipe foam insulation from Lowes and cut sections to wrap with zip ties on the metal bars of the doors which will cut down on the flapping noise.

- The top corners of the front doors will flap and pull out on highways. I tend to play with bending the top halves in once in a while to cut down on this. If I'm going on a long trip I'll bring bungee cords to attach to the top corners on both sides and pull them in.

- If you get them adjusted pretty good you will rarely get water on the floor

- If you lay them down put yoga mats between them to prevent scratching the isinglass.

- Keep sweat pants in the Jeep because if its cold out and your on a highway you will get a cold breeze on your left leg.

The best advice I can give you is get them setup perfectly and then try to drive w/o doors whenever you can. I assume if you bought soft doors it was for the convenience of taking them off quickly. I recommend leaving doors off for as much of the summer as possible and have a blast cruising around with no roof or doors like a Jeep was made to do.

-Mike

Well I ended up having to pull up the driver's side. Turns out the heavy rains made it in through the rain cover. Driver's side floor was soaked. Took it around the block and the noise didn't seem really any different. Honestly the part that got me was that the floor isn't painted the same color as the rest of the jeep.

Also in yet another episode of me wondering the intelligence of FCA engineers The carpet removal process was really easy except for some reason me needing to remove one bolt from the seat. Like everything else is super easy snaps, comes out in a firm piece, yet I had to unbolt the seat. Its like they were almost there and gave up.

Thats strange, I took the drivers side out no problem...no need to remove anything....and my floor is painted white...mind you with the factory soundproofing the paint is already coming off.

First real hard rain last night and I actually got no water inside...that surprises me with all the little gaps.

White, is your JT white? Mine is Gator and it is this strange brown, green, silver thing going on that is not gator, but I am not sure what it is down there.

Yes, it is white. I will say, in my 2012 sport, the sound proofing almost looked like welds on the floor...this one is like a gummy substance, I sticks to my shoes...so im not really sure what to do with that.

So thats what that stuff is, lol. I was wondering what that was. I ended up just putting my weathertech mats back down so I don't even really notice or miss the carptet. Drove with the doors off today, no noise difference. Will need to try with the doors if I ever feel they need to go back on, lol

Coupla questions for the group:
  1. Does anyone plan to put the carpet back? I took mine out and imagine it'd be a real PITA to reinstall. Please let me know if it's not a big deal as it might be nice to have in the colder months.
  2. I took my hardtop off with doors off and love it. I put the Freedom Panels back on for shade and some rain protection, but still get wet as the Panels don't extend quite far enough. Does anyone have a recommendation for sun/rain protection that could be easily removed to maximize the open-air feel?
  3. The truck bed is kinda full with the Freedom Panels and all four soft doors. Does anyone have a system to keep it organized and easily accessible?
And FYI my rear soft doors still did not fit properly, even after I spent $150 worth of time at the local off-road shop where they crammed them on only to not close again. Bestop suggests they'll send me another set but it'll take a couple of weeks. I appreciate the manager/supervisor I've dealt with there but otherwise the experience has been dreadful...

Even after the bad reviews here I still ordered a pair hoping I get lucky. But that was a couple weeks ago and they haven’t shipped yet. Wondering if they are stuck due to Covid.
