Curious as to why you went black vs another lighter color which may not hold as much heat in the summertime
First, black only absorbs heat from light. The material may hold heat, but that isn’t based on the color.
last two weeks it was 90+ here the inside panels were not even warm to the touch when I got in the truck. I do use an inside windshield cover when parking at work. I also have ventvisors so I can leave the windows down about 2”. I also open the rear window sometimes when parked. Tinting windows soon as well. The black has not been an issue this far. Plus most of my interior is black, it matches.

I used to work for the company that designed and produced the OE headliners for the JL/JT.

The primary objective, is looks. Focus groups commented the JK looked "unfinished", JK's got headliners at the end of the run, JL/JT launched with them. but this is why they go down the pillars and everything else. And why they're black, because black goes with everything.

A secondary function is noise abatement, anywhere you can add mass in a vehicle between the noise source and occupant, you reduce noise. Headliners in the Freedom Panels reduce noise by 7 DB at 75 mph.

Lastly, another barrier between the top and occupant, and JL/JT tops are just SMC, reduces radiant heat.

Thats very on par with why I chose spray on sound deadening. It’s black, matches the inside and any sound deadening is a bonus.
it is noticeably quieter on the highway. I still hear wind noise in the back, haven’t done it yet.
