Looking for a dash cam that I can mount on my BulletPoint Rubigrid Go Pro camera mount. I tried using my GoPro Hero but it really isn't a good camera for dash cam purposes. All of the cameras I've found are the ones you mount on the glass hanging upside down or rear view mirrors. Anyone knows any dash cams that may work?

Garmin's newer dash cams have a ball mount (female, on the front, 8.5mm).

BulletPoint makes adapters for 20mm to 8.5mm.

I’ve been looking for the same kind of setup. It’s really going to depend on how the cam attaches to the mount. Unfortunately a lot of brands do not show the attachment or give specs. Like if its a screw in adapter is it typical 20mm camera bipod size? If it is a ball mount then what size ball? Rubigrid sells several kinds of adapters but it's going to be up to people giving details on how their dash cam mounts as to whether you can get the right adapter. Really annoying that the dash cam Co's could care less about some kind of standard across brands for mounting.

I read a thread on reddit that the Garmin can be made to work but the mount is on the top and you have to use software to flip the footage. I think that is going to be the problem with a lot of them.

I’m getting ready to mount a Furrion RV back up cam to my Rubigrid. I know it's a ball mount but until I pick it up from the RV dealer I have no clue if the Rubigrid ball mount is the same size.

Be nice if their was aa thread with people posting pics of the mounts of various devices like dash cams and details on if the Rubigrid attachments work. I really like mine and going to upgrade to the new MagSafe mounts at some point.

I hear you. All of the cams that I have found that have a similar mount like the GoPro are intended to be mounted upside down on the windshield or having from the mirror. They have no option to flip the image if mounted on the Rubigrid. Been looking on and off for the last year. No luck so far.

I have been searching as well. I have the Bulletpoint dual phone and camera ball mount. I read a thread somewhere that the GP can acutally function as a dash cam if you put it in loop mode. The "hassle" or turning it on and off really isn't a hassle. I'm likely gonna end up with a Hero.

I need to check on doing loop mode on my GP. I do like the auto save feature in case of an accident that regular dash cams have.

Hey Jose, I actually have a GoPro Hero11 - not necessarily for a dash cam, but I decided to use it for multi purpose, and for me - it works great. I installed and mounted a USB charger in the middle top dash board tray. See pics. It‘s a perfect fit. I keep a black perforated foam to protect from heat and discoloring - works like a charm. Obviously you’ll need a few parts and tools and some basic wiring knowledge, nevertheless it’s very doable. Just another idea if you are interested. Enjoy!
