DEF usage

My diesel Rubicon just turned 1800 total miles and my DEF warning is telling me that I have 300 miles left before the engine shuts down. I thought the DEF was supposed to run about 10k miles before refilling. I can refill it, but what has everyone else seen? I have been towing a travel camper at 3k pounds over several hundred miles, and I run 37” tires. Is the DEF usage variable depending on engine load? Thanks!!

More load, more def used. I am at 3900 miles and still shows100% , it wasn't though, I put maybe a gallon in it today, just to see.

Thanks so much for the info. Yea, we were pulling hard up several big grades over the past two weekends as well as some load pulling our camper through soft sand. I will refill and see how it does without a load.

DEF is a consumable. The rate of consumption is in proportion to the work. The harder you run the Jeep the more you use.

I had a diesel Ram 3500. When I towed or hauled heavy loads for any distance I carried extra DEF just in case. Not all gas stations carry it. Most truck stops do. Some truck stops recently added a DEF pump next to the diesel. I saw one of those in Texas.

There is no way you will ever get 10,000 miles out of your DEF tank. So many variables on it, pulling, highway miles, colder weather, idle time, etc.. I owned a diesel truck before my JT and put 90,000 miles on it. I always filled my DEF tank at a truck stop pump. Never bought bag in a box DEF. I never had any issues other than the DEF tank freezing in -30 air temperatures overnight. You obviously will not have that issue in CA!!
