If I recall, the Tazer is a single VIN device so if you trade, you need to contact them for a different VIN. Again, tazer users can correct that so we have factual info out there.If you just remove it, the changed settings are retained. If you unmarry it, the settings are returned to the state they were in when it was married.
It has to be unmarried to use it in another vehicle. It possibly may also need a reset code to use it in another vehicle.
Jscan is a less expensive option for just making changes, if you don't want any of the Tazer 'live' functions.
If I am correct, like you said - Tazer keeps a log of all changes you make along the way. Unmarry goes through that log and reverses those changes. Simply remove and it leaves them intact.
