We have had issues with our driver side door control connector. Basically we would take the doors off and when I put them back on the mirrors and locks would not work. After the third time it happened, the dealer admitted it was their fault. They said some salesperson pushed it in place versus the proper way to align it then use the white “lever” to clamp it in all the way. So they are replacing the connectors once they come in. Since they had to take the door panels off I looked them over when we picked it up from service. I noticed they seem to sit back (inboard) from the weather stripping and seals for the windows. The tech said they sit behind the weather stripping and admitted it looked funny but said that’s how they are supposed to be. I haven’t taken the panel off yet and figured I’d put up a pic on the forum to see if anyone else’s looks like mine.

I think you should walk over to a new one on the lot and have him show you that it is the same.

I looked at the only other one on the lot and the fronts were close to what mine looked like but it could have been an mfg / assembly line error. Sounds like your saying it’s not normal...
