Excess heat in engine bay

So after a drive yesterday I went to check the battery wires to ensure everything was secure and noticed that the fuse box was extremely hot. Almost too hot to hold. The whole engine bay felt really hot. Now I know it's the engine bay and it's supposed to be hot but I wasn't sure what's acceptable. I guess I am just being paranoid with see couple of Gladiators catching fire.
