Does the factory air dam or whatever the nearly horizontal flat and ribbed piece of plastic that hangs below the bumper have any real function other than hiding from view suspension and steering components? On some vehicles similar pieces help direct airflow to aid in engine cooling. I am guessing that isnt the case with the JT since every aftermarket bumper gets rid of this piece. I just dont much care for the look of it and would like to get rid of it. I havent finalized my bumper selection yet but there's no reason this piece can find the dumpster now, is there?

If it is plastic, it is just for aerodynamics, to route the air around the truck. It can be removed, your MPG may take a slight hit.
